300mw blue vs 150mw green projector

i am looking at buying a laser projector but i cant decide whether i should go with a 300mw 450nm blue projector or a 150mw green projector that both have 20kpps scanners in them. i know that you will need fog for pretty much any laser show, but out of the two projectors what would have a more noticeable beam in the dark with not much fog at all? they are both roughly same in price so that is not an issue.

The green laser is actually a 120mw CNI module but there are a little over spec from what I heard. Would the green beam still be brighter in this case?

Yes, my 50mw green has a much more visible beam than my 230 mW blue in my projector.

Green will almost always trounce on blue, even when the blue is fairly high-powered compared to the green. If I had the same choice you have, I'd go with the green.

A vet can correct me if i am wrong but i think it's like 4:1 blue to green

lasers are funny old things, using 532 445 and 640 to get a perfect white balance you use 1:1:1.

but fire a 1watt green out on its own and fire a 1watt 445 out on its own the green will always look much brighter.

strange...

alright well looks like i will be going with the green and it is a little cheaper so that is good as well. by any chance do CNI modules have IR filters? how bad is it for your eyes when standing about a hundred feet away with a 150mw green shining beams at you?

Yes, CNI modules have IR filters.

100ft and scanned 150mW will not be an issue as 1) the beam is moving and latent time on your eye will be short, 2) the beam profile at 100ft will be quite large.

Both combine to result in low power density at the eye, assuming the beam continues scanning.

As an experiment, I set up 2 identical PC fans with mirrors tonight, used 1300mW 445 on one, 200mW 532 on the other. The green tunnel appears much more brilliant with or without smoke in the air. Of course the 532nm beam profile is much better, the 445nm was uncorrected. Does this help?

dont take this the wrong way but i really would offer safety advice to people if your not trained and know the facts

Your right. I am not trained, nor do I know the facts.

I don't know Andy, while it's a tad simplified his advice is sound. At 100+ feet scanning at these power levels it's highly unlikely that instantaneous retinal exposure would exceed MPE. Most entry-level greens don't have razor-thin beams.. by the time you're out at 100 feet or more the beam diameter will be quite wide in comparison to the 7mm avg. human pupil.

i didnt make that post to piss people off, sorry

i know nothing about safety and you wont ever find me commenting on it and i just feel others shouldnt either if they havent done the relevent training.

^That's more than fair Andy, and wise also. Safety can be misconstrued easily, and giving bad safety advice can be harmful in many ways.

sure can, i dont know enough about safety so wont offer advice encase i get it wrong.

but hey thats just my view, what people do and say is up to them :)
