Il start by saying this was originally andys 10k ILDA scanner, that I bought from him a while back. I am only using the DMX for this build but I plan to make a 30k ILDA RGV (Maybe RGB) in a few months time.

I bought it before Christmas and have had the drawings for the layout all sorted for some time now but have only just gotten around to finding a day I can use the pillar drill at work to actually mount the components. Here's the layout anyway, its being placed into a small 279x190x89 enclosure with all components mounted on an aluminium plate that will be bolted down inside the enclosure.

Im not sure about the 10mm space around the outside for the bolts seeing as that only gives me 5mm to bolt it down, although the plate is pretty strong so it might be ok.

Going inside the scanner is a rather over powered 50mW module from DragonLasers. I don't actually have a power meter so I don't know exactly how much its putting out but it can light matches from 1 meter away.

Il post more pictures as I progress.

Edit: More descriptive title.

All holes fixed and components mounted. Next step is wiring it all up and placing it inside its enclosure

hey! nice project!

would you mind telling us about the costs?

Thanks mate :) At the moment only the laser works but the scanner is being wired up on Monday :D

The cost is rather low, I got the aluminium plate and scanner from andy for around £80 I think it was, the 50mW green (putting out double that) from DL last year for £140. I still need to spend £10 on the enclosure and another £10 or so on the connectors and everything.

Total so far though is £220, with any luck I will complete it with a total cost of £250.

wow the power cable for that green laser is massive  ;D

Its 8mm thick haha.

Really flexable though which will be handy when it comes to putting it inside the enclosure. I really need a cable management system in there haha, there's cables everywhere.

Hi.. where did you get that DMX from... i am still looking for a cheap solution

It comes with the scanner, its the laserpic10 kit.

Build is almost complete. More pics.

There are pictures of it inside the enclosure and of the scanner in action but they are on my other computer.

Heres a vid of the animations. Note I recorded this before the galvos were tuned so things are a little off in the video.

Attached image is from one of my more recent videos that im still editing. The scanner is on the left obviously and the light on the right of the image is a moonflower effect.

amazing! i found your video on YT some weeks bevor you posted here. didnt know its yours. good to know another one who bought from laserpic!

say me, the flicker... i know cameras can mess this up extremely.
how complex/big the animation can get until YOUR EYE will see it flicker?
but seems to be real great for 10k - a pitty that you paid for your 532nm too much.

PS: i like the music!!!

:)

I posted the video a while back but there were no replies and the thread was forgotten. The scanner kit is actually from Andy, im not too sure where it came from before that but the scanner is a laserpic10.

The camera really didn't do the flicker any favours but at max angle it does have a flicker that's visible. I have tuned the galvos to just below their max and the manual says it will do 30 degrees at 12k so I can only assume that's what its doing. Different effects have different flicker though, its mainly the larger animations with solid lines that flicker the most but you can see on one of the firework effects that its 'drawing' the effect from the bottom upwards as it appears to flicker up to the top.

Despite the price of the green laser I am really happy with it. It's rated at 50mW but as I have said countless times it will light matches from around 1 meter away and from what I can see on camera there is no IR leakage.

The music is from YouTubes Audio Swap, I thought I would save myself the trouble of having the audio removed and give their own service a try.

Ok, finally got the video sorted. Youtube has totally messed up the sound so its about 5 seconds out of sync though... Excuse my mate at the beginning haha, turn up the bass if you can ;).

wow great build!
nice vids btw!

Thanks! I thought I may as well brush up on Sony Vegas while I was editing it. I recorded it with me N95 at 30fps so why it flickered that might is beyond me... could be due to the strobe though.

Still :)

The build is almost done, just got to fit a fan and wire everything inside the enclosure.

Enclosure is now done! Just need to wire up the DMX, fan and IEC mains socket and its done! :D

Note the scratches on the sides are from the top half of the enclosure, they don't show when the top is on :). The big rectangle hole is for the IEC socket.
