Potential GB??? - Laser Beam Visualizer Spray

Hi,

I'm currently waiting on some parts to make more DIY reds! But I know that you can't really see the red beam, whereas the green beams look wayyyyy better  

I've seen some of photos of red beams shown by using the beam visualiser spray.
I've not used it myself, but how much does it improve the visual on a red laser?

If it's really worth getting, I might start a GB for the Beam Visualiser Spray, as if you order 5 or more from NOVA, you can get 43% off! + the code to get 5% off, and if anyone is a member a futher 15% percent off! (I've not got a membership yet - so I won't be able to get the 15% extra off)
+ Shipping to the UK.

I know a min order of 5 isn't very many for a GB - but I don't really wan't to order $90 worth of smoke spray for just myself.
And by the time UK postage is added, it's another $20 or so.


So, are there any UK folkes out there who want to club together for some NOVA smoke spray on the cheap?

I can't get a bulk discount on this, and can't seem to find another competitive supplier. BUT I can get a whopping 5% student discount off at my local Maplins. So we are looking at £4.75 a can + minimal P&P
(If you ordered it youself - you are looking at £4.99 + £2.99 postage = £7.98)

I've not done much overseas posting - but I can't imagine it's that much. So if the Maplin spray is good, I don't mind posting overseas at a small cost.

I don't know if the Maplin spray is better than the NOVA spray, but it does say

It would work out cheaper in the long run to buy a fog machine, as it's getting closer to halloween shops will be stocking them again, after the ween the price will drop to next to nothing. I remember argos were selling fog machines for £4.99 a while back. the maplin stuff looks good for a temporary measure but a fog machine would be the best way to do it.

£5 for a fogger!!!

I thought it would be more like £50 for a fogger.
Hence the spray!

I'll monitor Argos over the next few weeks, but if I can't get a bargain fog machine, I'll resurect this post and fire up the GB.

Just as a matter of interest, I'll try the spray in a week or so. I'll post my findings, as it could be a cheap alternative for us UK folks!

I dunno about 5 quid for a fogger unless they're having some sort of clearance sale, but its pretty easy to find them for $40 or less here (~20 quid I believe).

I payed £40 with 5 Litres of fogger juice which will probably last me a lifetime unless I take up DJ-ing ;D. I'm sure some people maybe interested if you buy in bulk :

Yeah it's halloween time so you can get some nice real foggers for less than $40. Spencer's gifts has them in the US. Any party store or such will carry them right now. If you can make it until after Halloween you may be able to pick one up on clearance cheaper.

Most of my laser toys are for the water.. and we use Maalox in the water to increase the turbidity so you can see the laser and simulate cloudy water.

The £5 fogger was a while ago, doubt they'll have them at that price again. asda usualy sell them this time of year too. i think they marked theirs down to about £8 after halloween last time. i'm gonna wait till then to pick me one up.

you can make your own fog juice from water and glycerine.

a cheaper alternative to maalox may be a stores own brand cheapo lemmon juice concentrate, it's about 10p a litre, tastes ok (like still cloudy lemonade), and a little bit goes a long way. thats what i'm gonna use when my waterproof dx 20 gets here. that and bath bubbles [smiley=bath.gif]

Well I have 3 cans of the stuff from Maplins and I am taking some to the UK Meet this weekend to try out, so will let you know what its like or even better come along to the meet

You can get a mini fog machine at wal mart for $19.99. If all you are using it for is to see your beam, then it would work just fine.

OK, cheers everyone. I'll go hunting for bargains after halloween.

If I spot any good deal, I'll post them on here.
@ Meri - I'd like to know how you get on with that - my school physcis dept. had an old can of it, but it was running out, so wasn't too good.

OK, I caved in and went to Maplins and bought a can.
It's really quite good!

It makes the beam look very cool!!!
Can't really say much about it - but a few pointers:

- You need to spray quite a bit ~20-30 secs for a good ammount of beam to see.
- The nozle get really quite cold if left spraying for too long. Perhaps if you are doing a long long spray - stick on a pair of gloves.

It looks like I have a light sabre now!!! ;D
+ It's cheaper than Nova's spray (which I've not had a go with yet, so can't comment on that. + I'm not having a go at Nova's, as they are REALLY good - it's just $25 for 1 can + $19 shipping to the UK - things get pricey really quickly for us UK folk!)

Overall: Would reccomend - especially to UK based laser fans without a fog machine.

If people can't get hold of some (available on maplin website - but £3.50 ($7) delivery!!!!!), and if I got enough interest, I don't mind starting a GB. But as many have said a fog machine is just as good, it's just that this is a quick, cheap portable solution!

I am tempted to get some of this stuff.

I need to go to maplin over the weekend to g et some parts for my x/y scanner so I will pick some of that stuff up as well if they have it on the shelfs. Will post back on what I think as well.
