I've played a lot with flybacks. They're pretty cool indeed.

I was a shop technician while I was going to school back in the early 70s. It was a good job back then as I worked for the largest retailer in the area and made $350/ week. Saw thousands of televisions and changed countless flybacks. Those old tube ones arced better than the later integrated flybacks. Never got interested in Tesla coils as I got enough long arcs everyday I worked back then.

Heh, I remember those HV transformers in tube TV's, they were interesting, saved a few from scrapped units myself, never ended up using them though. I didn't buy that cheap ebay one I listed here, probably is a minimal arc, I expect just a tiny little "flame" of arc on top, only enough to modulate the air and make sound.

Oh, I found a photo of one: https://www.ebay.com/itm/15-24V-2A-...rc-Electronic-Kit-Music-Play-Pop/232610207147

Search ebay under "music tesla" and you will find some big ones with more impressive arcs: https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_fr...0.Xmusic+tesla.TRS0&_nkw=music+tesla&_sacat=0

I have a tiny USB TC, it's enough to light up CFLs but too weak to spark.

Didn't think feebay would have that many models. Might grab that small one. The big ones are too expensive to buy without being sure they work.

If they are using binned Sharp diodes for this 488nm pointer, it is able to deliver more than just 1 mW. That could be a disclaimer for the FDA so they aren't stopped at customs. I typically drive these at 275 mA for over 100 mW of optical power. It must be using a boost driver because the Vf of the diode is higher than one Li-ion battery. If you could access the driver, it might be possible to increase the power over what they set it for.

wtf?
do you want to even know if it arrives??
what power etc??

______
Wide price ranges on what looks about the same..

Cheapest was $26--active cooled head and free $hip-- 'claims' to be 5.5W ---5500 mW and both analog and TTL.

well for starters all analog is also TTL.-----*BUT* there is a switch marked 'TTL/analog-'- on several versions..as high as $200

I will meter one asap--(paid today)
another odd thing- in the listing it sez-'used' 'new' and 'brand new'

That's a very good price for what I've seen before at that kind of IR power.

You still have to drive it once you get it. Won't be cheap to drive it to 140 watts.
