To be fair, at that power they don't really need it. Still, would be nice.

A 300kW engine needs a fan. A 1000W magnetron needs a fan. A 120W CPU needs a fan. Does a 0.06W diode with a big heat sink need a fan?

At less than a watt of heat, that heat sink is plenty to keep the diode cool. Adding a fan would have a negligible impact on the temperature rise, and just make noise. If this did come with a fan, I would remove it immediately :shhh:

Should laptop chargers come with fans? Should home stereos come with fans? How about TVs? Adding a fan to things might in some cases lengthen the life of the product, sure. (or it could clog the device with cat hair?) Hell, the same could be said for TEC cooling all your home appliances. But the added energy consumption and noise just isn't worth it to most consumers. Myself included. :D

You know the drivers on these have a plug for a 12 volt fan. Once you installed that you could increase the current to the diode and get more than 60 mW out of it. Hell, I have several of those fans in my stock with the plug already on the end. Of course the polarity might not be the same, but that's no problem.

I don't really need one as I have a pointer with that diode and another bare in my stock.

With 80k lumens those flashlights are lasers on their own.

They used to use spot lights in Europe during WW II for spotting aircraft. White light can be focused to an extent for use at longer ranges than an unfocused light. Even though these flashlights are new, the technology is not really new. The source of the light is newish, but high lumen focused light certainly isn't.

Yep great big rear reflector carbon arc spot lamps on an articulated base, I remember looking at them when they were brought out to events when I was young to draw a crowd, the carbon rod would screw feed down the center and smoke would steam out from the thing as it ran, there was a 4 or 6 cyl piston engine generator running to power the thing and they were set in a sweep pattern, now they are probably LED, I have seen a 4 head electric lamp type in person, but not a LED although I bet it's ........hell now I have to look it up

---EDIT---

I have seen this kind live.

Maybe the large frame LED searchlight is not here just yet, al least not in a single emitter, but this looks interesting, now that's some throw in a tight beam.

Imagine using that as a pump source for a solid state laser!

35 watts, hmmm.... hot though! I found the price on a web site, 269.00 USD. Cheap for that, I think..... maybe indicative of quality? Maybe that one a knock off, not sure.

This looks like that 12 million CP light. I like the LED HH searchlights, that giga thrower looks like fun, there's 2 sales ads for a new gigathrower on ebay ATM, if they were 200 bucks I would buy one, by next year I bet we can get that and better for 200 or so, maybe less as the new ones will likely be twice as bright.

That's still cheap, I don't think they are the same one, lower quality with the same output though. When I see those big reflector lens and the hole in the back for the power to the tube, I start thinking about mounting a rod in a reflector like that with a laser diode on the end pointed into the reflector to make a huge low divergence beam, except the reflector is doubtlessly designed for a different light source pattern.

You can focus a laser with a reflector/mirror, but as our MM diodes are not Gaussian, rather they diverge unevenly it would be interesting to see the correct mirror, maybe an oval shaped reflector ?
