By now everyone should know that any time you buy any laser from DX or other generic laser resellers... the only thing you have until it arrives is hope.
Hope that it gets shipped in a timely manner.
Hope that it doesn't get confiscated.
Hope that it isn't DOA.
Hope that it is in spec.
But it never will be in spec, regardless of how much faith you have.

The reality is that they are poorly constructed with cheap components and have a high probability of severe operating defects if not early failure.
And the design is pretty ugly.

Also, after following the link to DX, this is the message on that page:

"United States Customers Only: due to new regulations enforced by the US FDA and PayPal, orders of >5mW lasers units shipped to the United States are no longer accepted. Orders that were previously accepted and unshipped will be canceled and refunded to customers. This affects United States orders only."

So, it looks like they won't even ship them anymore.

Old news. It's been that way for about a couple years now. :)

What RA_pierce said is right.

I have the first two, the sd301 equals about 46mW , but it has nice construction.

The other one with the fat head equals about 100mW and i like that one.

So, what are you saying? They still ship >5mW lasers to U.S. anyway?
I buy lot's of stuff from DX, just not the lasers. I'm looking for a 300mW green module or diode, but am at a standstill.

No, they don't ship >5mW rated lasers to the USA.
Except the modules. But those are garbage, too.
If you want to buy from a cheap China site, the only laser products worth your while are going to be the "5mW" deals.

Anything >50mW is almost guaranteed crap. It might look like a good deal, but once you realize you got half the power you thought you paid for, the deal ain't so good anymore.

For a 300mW green module, you can try out O-like. They sell the same shit mostly, but with a bit better quality control.
Your other option is to spend ~50% more and go with a good company like CNI.

Well, I read some positive comments about FocalPrice, so I ordered a couple green 200mW's from them. I guess we'll find out if I get them or not! That's another China company as you already know.

Some people say that everything is made in China these days. But how wrong they are! If they'd only do a little research, they'd soon realize that everything is NOT made in China. There are still a few things that are made in Taiwan and Japan! I wish they'd get the facts straight.

FocalPrice said they shipped my greenies on Dec 10 and I paid extra for EMS shipping, whatever that is. It really doesn't matter, a slow boat to China is what it is. Now that the USA has to borrow more $ from China to stay afloat, I guess China will soon start replacing the congress and the senate with Ho-Chi-Min-Murdock and his crew. At least we'll all have socialized lasers and health care. Sometimes they go hand in hand anyway.

I really wonder what their actual output power is... DealExtreme: $67.80 SD-300 200mW 532nm Green Laser Pen Pointer with Battery Set (1*18650) looks like the most massive of the hosts which could be good for cooling, but otherwise i can't tell any obvious differences between this new batch.

As for the country of origin: I suppose these are made in china, but what does it matter? Any country makes good and bad quality products.

My one is about 100mW (no IR filter)

This is a good laser for it's LOW price:

YouTube - ML 98338667

Focalprice.com offers 200mW 532nm Green Beam Laser Pointer (Black) ,discount 200mW 532nm Green Beam Laser Pointer (Black),200mW 532nm Green Beam Laser Pointer (Black) products, low price 200mW 532nm Green Beam Laser Pointer (Black),cheap 200mW 532nm G

I've tested about 40 and they were all working fine.

Not even close to 200mW but enough to light matches when focused properly.

I think these units are about 70mW/90mW... waiting mariomaster for buy the Radiant Alpha PLM :)
