it has the high voltage power supply built in... looks like you just need to feed it 12-14v dc.

Dave, don't you have one of these?

Was this the one that you took pics and the bare tube was glowing? or have I completely lost my mind?

I seem to recall seeing a he-ne pic on here and thinking to myself it would make an excellent nightlight or some sort of glowing ambient decoration..

It has the brick transformer in it. You have to hook it up to 10-14 volts to power the transformer.

I have several HeNe lasers. I think that this is the picture you remember. Eventually it will, indeed, be an accent lamp

The units at the link above don't have as much of the tube exposed.

Hey dave, where did you get yours? I'm looking for one similar to that, which has a large window for viewing the smaller tube inside. The one I have right now is pretty neat, but only has about 1" of viewable space on the tube.

Pic for reference... (see how only a small portion of the inner tube can be seen?)

It was an eBay purchase. You just need to keep your eyes open for one (and decide how much you are willing to pay for one). There are some on there now, but they are too expensive for me just to have as an "oddity." I have another one that is a little longer and is about 1/2 exposed. I cut it out of its aluminum tube. I just wanted to see what was inside [smiley=evil.gif]

Peace,
dave

Anyone know the rated output of one of these new by any chance?

Based on the input/output of the power source they are 1-2mW

pseudo, you should ask wannaburn if he has any tubes left - the one I bought from him has about half of the inner tube visible

So all I need to do is feed it 14VDC and I have a working HeNe? Hmm I may have to buy one of these for the collection. ;D
