Hmm a kip kay contest and the whole point is so he gets more subscribers that alone make me not want to do it but, there are many worse things i could do and the second this contest is over i would unsubscribe.

That guy is and idiot and the only thing the torch sets on fire is the torch itself. Seriously though if you don't want glass lenses exploding in you're face stay away from the torch.

Yup, it's cheap way to get more subscribers, I'm glad I unsubscribed from this youtube whore, if only I wouldn't keep seeing his spam on LPF too...

It's like a 100 000 to 1 chance of winning this.

When kipkay posted a video with a toster with 6 toothbrushes, I knew it was time to hit "Unsubscribe".

No matter the lack of stability in my financial situation (understatement of century), I'd NEVER accept a gift from KIPKAY even if he came to personally hand me a wicked evo 130.

It's the principle of the thing.
The guy is an idiot, making fame from ignorance of people. Non-stop.

[Rant] He also gave away a (scratched up) Sonar Elite 20mW and an Evolution Pro 100mW with LaserShades in the same manner, "to anyone of any age anywhere in the world" which is a folly of giant proportions, and a huge hazard to us as a community because a lot of damage can be done fast with a 100mW green laser by an ignorant person or someone who just likes to do stupid things, like lase planes. In case you're wondering, he's got nearly 350,000 subscribers already, so I doubt he cares what happens with the lasers, so long as he gets his views. [/rant]

I say he got them for free in the first place, and judging him by his vids, why would he care at all?

One good thing is for sure:
Nobody will ever be able to make his projects by watching his vids, so no noobs will lase planes that way.

He made it up for giving away working lasers.

Things are going from bad to worse real fast.
Next thing you know:
Kipkay: How to successfuly crash a plane .. With lasers!

"This easy and quick HACK will enable you to crash planes from safety of your home! And it will cost you under $10!
Parts list:
100mW green module from DIY-LASER-APHALI.COM = $650
housing = 0.99 $
Two kilos of hot glue and 5 kilos of button cells = found anywhere"

**APHALI = And pay a huge amount like an idiot

That goes without saying, dude! D'oh!
Everything he makes is world's first!
The 14 failed attempts at getting the maglite laser to work long enough to shoot it - every one - worlds first!

What did you expect!

As far as I'm concerned he stole the laser flashlight "hack" off of a old lasercommunity member named Stephanie. She was the first to dismantle a DVD burner and build it into a laser and make a guide. That was looooong before kipkay, and IIRC it was before LPF too. (she used a proper driver though)

Which also makes him a plagiarizing douche. And WTF is with calling everything a "hack," is it because it is "hacked" together so shoddily?

Nice...

I would really love to hear some background on how the entire DVD laser thing started!
Who stated the first idea? Who prototyped it? Who made it work?
Who improved it?
When, how, why?

I'm too curious!

Why call it a hack? Because if you do it, you are a hacker. Talk about subconcience suggestions, heh?

I really don't know if she was the first or if she prototyped it herself, but she was the first to post it and post a how to as well. This is where it all started, before this building your own laser was practically unheard of...
DVD Laser Transmissions from Planet Stephanie

I thought she used a driver, I guess not :p just means that kipkay ripped her off that much more.

Since everything connected to the computer chassis was at ground, and the diode was soldered to its heat sink and the sink was bolted to the optical assembly which was attached to the DVD mechanism which eventually was tied to the computer chassis, I reckoned that the DVD diode’s case was ground. That meant one of the other two pins was the +vdc.

From her guide.

Now THAT is what I call AWSOMENESS!!!

Figure out a polarity by noticing that the diode is actually connected to entire computer case.
How about that?

Respekt!

I think that when people started building they're own lasers is when LC started to decline. Wickedlasers owns LC and probably didn't like it when someone posted a guide showing exactly how to make a pulsar for 1/3 of the price. I think WL started censoring LC and because of that most all of the senior members started to leave making the forum suck. At that same time this forum started as an unbiased forum where you could talk about everything without getting your posts randomly deleted. This is when Dragonlasers came out as well as the cheaper Chinese sites and you couldn't post anything about those lasers on LC but you could here. Avery had incredible timing on starting this new forum.

I could talk (type) for days about the older laser days. The laser world has changed a lot in 5 years!
