has anyone bought anything like this only to realize the reason its not working is because someone took the diode?

Hey, quit messing around with ebay for drives and diodes, use this link http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16827136117
These drives are $22.99 delivered and have a nice Sony long open can diode.
Pull the four screws holding on the top, unsolder the lead to the diode while it is still in it's heat sink and pop it out with a craft knife. Build a laser !         Catmandoo

Yeah we know about that, look at the "Sony 20x burners $24 at Newegg" thread which is 3 threads below this one right now.
What we're looking for are cheap bluray diodes, not long open can diodes.

My bad, I will watch this thread cause my ps3 diode croaked and I would like another blue.

Actually, flogged made two blurays with diodes extracted from these drives, (although the first one died) :( here's the first one, and this is the second one.

i bought one to for the heck of it even though i got like 4 to 5 coming from the gb, but ill keep every one informed on how it goes
