I'm confused, what 8x is this and is it a good one?
Thanks for sharing this!

The sled and diode listed as an 8X in the site (BDR-S03) IS NOT an 8X sled/diode. It is NOT even from a BDR-S03 burner. Read the thread that TechJunkie linked you to above.

It is probably a 2X burner. My early test of a single diode caused this misunderstanding (along with the Chinese dealers' willingness to lie about what they have)

The only available 8X diodes right now are from the LG "08" series and the Pioneer BDR "03" (and maybe "05") series.

THERE ARE NO 8X "SLEDS" AVAILABLE.

You have to buy a disc burner and harvest it yourself (or pay someone else to do it for you)

Peace,
dave

BDR-203 and LG BH08 are the ONLY 8X so far. And they are both the same diode.

EDIT: LOL thanks Dave. I think everyone is still sleepy today or something. LMAO

The drives are actually a "series.' For example, the Pioneer BDR "03" series has an S03, 203, and 2203 that I know of. Yes. There really is a BDR-S03, but the sled at PSXBoy is NOT it. The different model numbers are for different "packages" (OEM, bulk, Software inclusion, full retail package, etc.)

The LG has at least the BH08 and the WH08 models

It is really pretty easy to understand folks. While the manufacturer is using the sleds to make drives, there are no surplus sleds available.

Peace,
dave

So can you buy the others? Or is the 203 cheaper because its OEM?

Different seller sell at different prices. I have seen a full retail version go for less than a "wholesale" bulk version. It is just good to know the different models so one doesn't pass up a "deal"

Peace,

Hey, so umm, I don't remember any specs about the 4x GGW-H10L diode. Does anyone have a link to a thread about them? Like, around how high mA is safe (I know it's debatable)? and also, do they contain a LOC red like in the 6x GGW-H20L?

They're good for ~150mW IIRC and they do contain a LCC red.

Yeah, meant LCC. And thanks, 150mW sounds good enough for me to want just 1. So does that mean I should run it at around 160-170mA (more or less)?

Edit: Actually nah, I just ordered a lot of PHRs instead. I don't think 150mW @ $26 vs. 100mW @ $7 is worth the difference (even if you do get a red diode worth around $5-$9)
