I've come across some "clearance" A240 projectors here in Canada. Super reputable seller (major Canadian retailer). They're brand-new, not open box or anything like that.

They're $600 + Canadian tax, which is another ~$90. So basically $700 each plus shipping. Basically $700 / 24 = $29 per diode.

Is this at all useful at this stage now that we have a new crop of better diodes? Does this appeal to anyone?

I'm guessing they have the same diodes as the M-series etc?

Worst case scenario they are as efficient as A-140's. Still not bad for 29 dollars a diode.

No, doubtful. I'm sure these are the original A-140 era diodes.

In fact, it's looking like pricing is:
$600 for A240
$500 for A130

Plus tax (15%) on both. No shipping extra. With the A130 that gets diodes down to like $23 or $24.

A-140's are more efficient than A-130's, right?

I think all bets are off in terms of figuring out how good the diodes would be ahead of time.

Presume then to be very "blah". It's Canadian stock, old projector models, and as we've seen by decoding diode serials, there's really no such thing as an A140 vs A240 vs A130 etc diode. Just different diode batches

Still a good deal imo.. for the beginner or someone who's not looking for a crazy 2W diode (we dont often hit 2W anyways), we sure dont expect them to be 1.5~2W but they surely are >1W (Still much better than WL)
and at 23~29 whats better than a cheap 445?!!!

Most of the rest of the lasering world has not yet figured out that the M and H series use a better diode.

"1W blue diodes" and "1W lasers" still sell pretty well in other venues

I think that the only place that they will begin to be unpopular, in the near future, is here and PL

Yeah, that's a good deal. Builders should have no problem at all getting rid of those.

Wow, in the time between posting, bed, waking up, and checking this thread, the A130s all sold out. Still some A240s.

If these diodes are getting so cheap why is everyone still selling them at $50 a pop?...

Well, they're not really "getting so cheap".

DTR for example, is selling M series diodes. Those projectors are at least (unless you get some fluke price somewhere) $800 to $900 each. Even at $800:

$800 / 24 = ~$34 each.

DTR sells his at $45 a piece. After Paypal fees, that's more like $43. So he makes about $9 per diode. Obviously that drops to like $5 per diode if the projector is closer to $900 than $800.

Some other stuff, like selling the LED and the DLP chips can help the margin a tad, but there's just not that much markup on these diodes when you buy them from our forum members (like DTR).

true. I spoke to a person on the phone yesterday who sells lasers on ebay and he was unaware of m140 diodes easily hitting over 2W now.

It can be worse than that.

Best deal out I see at the moment is $875. Casio Signature XJ-M140 XGA (1024 x 768) DLP projector - 2500 ANSI lumens

That is $36.50 a diode. I offer free shipping as well and that costs $1.64 plus about 20 cents for packing materials. So figure $2 to ship and $2 for fees that brings the cost to $40.50. That is $4.50 each which does not account for any duds found in the projector. It can be a wash or loss if one gets lost in the mail or one is dead/LED/damaged in the projector.

I offer them for this price as a favor to this community and as a lost leader in the hopes people will take advantage of my other items and services.;)

Don't you wish you could just find a little chinese guy at the factory to throw a few handfuls in his pocket and sell them for a few hundred dollars.

Seriously agree with dtr, All everyone knows is that people here sell stuff and become rich eh? i mean except for a few, everyone has sold a few items and providing some kind of their own products to the community they know what i am talking about.. Most of the time the profit is next to nothing in return of the services !!
