it looks good but scanners confuse me so much ;D

From what I know, all that needs to be done is the old laser removed and a new one put in its place.

If I had the money I would buy this and put a 20mW blue in there :p

Unfortunately I don't have the money :(

So would one of these connect to a power supply, and a computer, and you would use a program to control the mirrors and such?

No, its just a plug and play unit by the looks of things.

Only modes are DMX stand alone and sound active. Even then its very cheap.

Can't think of what it stands for right now but its basically a large number (200 or so) pre programmed effects built into the scanner. It will cycle through them all 1 by 1 (stand alone mode) you can controll them to a degree using a DMX controller which lets you choose the one of the effects, and change the size of it.

oh, so it you can select certain effects with the (seperate) DMX - sounds pretty cool!
+1 rep for you

This unit is based on stepper motors and as a result cannot do ILDA animation - it would be fun to mess with but $60 just for a stepper motor system seems a bit much IMO.

if it had say 10k galvos i would prolly buy it just for the kicks of it and have it set up to fit my laser pointer builds but the stepper motor changes my mind

You have found cheaper for a GREEN stepper motor scanner? Anyway its really simple to upgrade them.

No... Pointers are not for scanners. If you use a pointer with any scanner you might as well get a cheap scanner with steppers in it because none of the effects will work properly.

yes this i know but for the simple animations it makes (some im sure that dont need and modulation would be great.

but i guess i should of clarified it would be best to use drlavas flexmod driver for modulation

A circle or a square or something is all you will get from a pointer, it needs TTL or Analogue modulation.

No, but this unit is also broken. For the cost of a new green module you can buy a functional unit.

Upgrade all the components, not just the laser.

Theres a simple 10k kit selling for £70 online, stick that with a new laser in place of all the old parts and you have better than what the original working unit was.
