I don't know what to make of this anymore. You think it's possible this diode has two dies and lazeerer just happen to use the wrong pins?

Worse case scenario, I'll just rebuy the diodes from him, although he'll probably think I'm an idiot lol

That would be odd if they did. Plus the wiring wouldn't make sense. Seems like they'd both have share the case pin for such a setup to work, instead of one of the isolated pins.

But if it's two drastically different dies with different polarities.. Who knows. I still bet these are all mislabled 660's but they need more testing right now.

The SmOC's are like that, except one configuration yields red, the other ir.

I also order from both of them i want to see what they are going to do for me. I also order from the other guy that said he will refund me if they are not what he said they are witch there not.

Mfo, There is only 1 way these diodes turn on and its the way i did it. Like a LPC-815. I first connected it like a 635nm and when it dint light i swapped it like a LPC-815 pin out and it worked. I do not think that there is another pin out.

I will try for you though.:)

Thanks, I appreciate it. If somehow the diode dies, let me know and I will pp you a couple of dollars to help compensate.

^ No Worries mfo.:) I just tested every possible way there is and diode only works with a LPC-815 pin out.

Maybe you will get a surprise when you max this baby out. If it gets anywhere near 300mW then you still didnt get a bad deal.

Oops I thought i posted it already. I did max it out. 70mW +/-5mW.

The sucker would not die I Keeped turning a good 50-60mA More then it would not keep getting more in power and the diode dint even die. Just about any diode i know of if you do that its dead right away.

Iam not going to try the other diode to see hat it maxes at because iam sending git out tomorrow to someone for testing.:)

I think that indicates a new durable projector diode....why would they use 660????

Not maxing at 70mW it doesn't.

What's most likely happening here, and to other diodes that behave this way, is that as current increases, wavelength increases. Eventually the wavelength get to the point it starts leaving the band the facets are coated for.. so you lose gain.. and it eventually stops lasing entirely until you turn the current back down and the wavelength decreases to the point your back in the band the cavity is coated for. Meaning its really hard to LED these from simple overcurrent because they quit lasing before the cavity power density gets to the point where COD happens.

ESD will still kill these. As will EXTREME amount of currents that damage the PN junction or burns off the bonding wires. But getting carried away with setting the current on a driver won't.

These might be good practice diodes for people who want to learn basic building skills, but I don't think they'll have much other practical use for anyone.

Still - does anyone think the statement that these come from something with 14-16 diodes has any merit? Because that would be interesting.

Not really, other than I saw one of the sellers got positive feedback for a couple of the 500's saying they were 'as advertised'.

But who knows if that was just a shill buy to garner feedback, or if it was just some clueless buyer who just hooked it up, got red light, and was happy.

I toke some Beam shot videos Yesterday including some pictures. I will post them for you guys in a little bit.:)

I also talk to all the 3 sellers that i bought all my diodes from. Which 2 of them are the same sellers. I told them the situation and they offered a refund. Which i told them if they want to refund me then refund me. I told them although they are not 638nm diodes i still like how they dont have wings around the dot.:D

I have one running at 71mW and i like it.:D Ive got the 100mW diode going over too Cyparagon right now for testing.
