Yes another "What To Buy" - DX True30mW or 50mW

OK, I know loads of people ask all the time, about which DX green is better than the other. But I really think a guide should be stickied about this.

I'm sure between everyone here, we could write a guide / buying advice that shows which True XXmW is better that a normal XXmW. Perhaps go crazy and make a graph.  :p
I'm sure it would save people from asking again and again.

But, after all that; onto my question!

Simply: Would you get a DX True 30mW or a Normal 50mW?
I want a cheap, maybe burnable (not-too-fussed-as-I-have-DIY-SenKat-Red-burner kind of maybe :-? ) GREEN laser, where the beam is clearly visible, hopefully in the day, obviously at night.

It doesn't have to be a Deal Extreme one, but I've heard they are good & cheap. + they post out the UK free  :)

More of a cool 'look at this' rather than a 'watch this go up in flames - green style' or 'I can pop 34 balloons from 3 miles'

I'd also like to use it with some XY scanners and various other cheap effects. + I'd like to use it with various optics/lens - (doesn't have to be attached to it) for mesing around.

Also, I DON'T want one that blasts out buckets of IR.  :-/

Then, when I have got fed up with that, I can move on up to the high power NOVA level and similar.  ;D

Re: Yes another "What To Buy" - DX True30mW or 50m

Apolagies for quoting myself before - I've now deleted it.

I know, but I want a cheap green to play around with. If I broke a £15 green laser, well - that's £15 down the drain. But If I killed a £100 X-105 or whatever, I'd be in tears!

I think I have to learn to walk before I can run! (Laser-wise obviously!) :D
+ When I do get a 100mW or more X-Series (or similar), I'd appriciate it more!

Re: Yes another "What To Buy" - DX True30mW or 50m

For my first laser I went with an X-105 equivalent. I ordered a true 30mW and true 5mW from DX not too long ago but I don't have them yet so I can't say. I would probably go with the true 30mW first though. I know for me I wanted something lower to have (what's wrong with me?) after my 100mW+ green so this will give you a nice range. Just my few cents and at the price you can't beat it!

Lol, OK.

I think I know what you mean. Just a laser for playing, not a 'argghh.. it's burning my eyes out one'
I think I'll add a poll, then I can get some numbers on these reccomendations!

Re: Yes another "What To Buy" - DX True30mW or 50m

Due to me understanding they would probably be about the same mW or so. The 50mW is only a tiny bit cheaper and you may actually get one that is a bit more powerful then the True 30mW. I am sure both would be great. I just went with the True 30mW because I have the higher one so I didn't need it for power so much. And you shouldn't worry about the IR in one of these. They aren't made the best but Greg will come in here and bust our chops talking about the IR filters. That and the divergence of the IR is so great it wouldn't do too much, especially in one of these lower mW models. So let us know what you think and you can look around the forum a bit more. If you want to see some pictures of my CNI and some other people's lasers check out my site! www.wirelesscord.com ;D

Oh and I voted for the 50mW, I say start with that. It will keep you satisfied until you have enough for a Nova and maybe even inspire you to save more diligently!

FYI, i bought DX 30mW and now that i regret it. I wish i have bought a Nova instead...this is my first green laser.

Save your money and get a quality laser instead.

Can I ask why you regret it?

Also, what could I expect from a normal 50mW, as opposed to a True 30mw?

I also bought a Newwish (DX Type) 20 mw as my first greenie...got bagged 80 dollars for it!!!!!

I hated that thing!!!

I finally discected it Sunday morning....
The mutilated parts of it are now on their way to the local landfill!!! ;D

I wish I had known about this Forum before I bought it...

I also wish I had just bought my X-105 right off the bat.

Just my opinion...good luck with your decision!

Re: Yes another "What To Buy" - DX True30mW or 50m

I am actually quite happy with it(tDX true 30), BUT i dont have much money to spare, it is the quality that killing me. Now i know it is better to have quality more expensive laser that last for a long time than having a cheap one that will die in a week. If you are after 30-50mW range save more bucks and the get Nova X45 or X65 you wont regret it, you will get more than what you pay for. But then reality sets in you want more power and you'll end up wanting X105 :) ;D :D ;) :)

I cant comment on DX true 30 and DX 50. I originally ordered a DX 50 but ended up having a DX true 30 because of the stock at that time.

Re: Yes another "What To Buy" - DX True30mW or 50m

I understand the validity of many people saying to just go for the Nova but as I see it you might as well "try" a laser out and getting one for <$25 USD is a good starter and wouldn't hamper your savings for a higher laser all that much. I know it was killing me waiting to get the money to pay for a laser of my own. But, in reality if you are somewhat close to getting an X-series (about >$100 USD or so) then you would probably want to just consider to keep saving and get it! Or even try and borrow the money like I did! ::)

Re: Yes another "What To Buy" - DX True30mW or 50m

Cheers Guys for all your advice!

I've decided that I'm going to do both!

I'm going to order a True 30mW now (next 10 mins) as a "toy" to keep me happy wile I wait for my X-105 that I'm saving up for.

Then, I'll go for the works around Christmas, with the X-105+Case+Membership+Some Accessories+Green Goggles (I have red, but not green) + 5% off code!
I've also got 3 more SenKat DIY reds and a DDL Blue-Ray to keep me busy (when they arrive)! + Planning the Mega-Hex Burner.

Sounds OK???
£12.50 is bloody cheap for a laser - so I'm not expecting much. I'm picturing a green $1 laser from the £ shop, (so as not to dissapoint myself :p) Then, if it's better that that, well great! :D, if not, Sell it / Bin it /Set it on fire with my X-105 (when I get it!)

Whooo!

Ordered the True 30mW one!
I also wasted some money on a $2 Compact Flash -> IDE Converter for messing around with and installing XP for an on-the-go thing. I love Deal Extreme! - Cheap crap - but it's damm good cheap crap!

Bah I just got an email saying they're working on fulfilling my order. Oh well, free shipping and cheap prices make it worth the wait. Should be shipped in the next 3 days or so they say.
