Wicked Lasers - am I another victim?

Hi all - I'm new here and was prompted to join as I just took delivery of what is meant to be a new 300mw green E3 laser from Wicked.

Unfortunately I bought it before I started searching for reviews on the web, and a number of places (this forum included) has reports of them delivering the wrong laser, being very slow etc.

They have sent me what I think must be at most a 25mw pointer, it doesn't come close to burning anything in fact I can keep the beam focused on my hand for minutes at a time and only some slight warmth.

Beam is just about visible in a lit room, when I compare it to my <5mw pointer from about 10 years ago there's barely any difference.

Are they likely to replace the pointer with what I paid over $300 for, or will they kick up about it? Is there any way I can prove what power the diode is running at?

Any pointers (ha) welcome.

Hello and welcome to this forum Hancliff.

I guess you should try contacting them and see what they say to you (if they say anything at all). But honestly, theres like a 5% chance that you'll get a reply, and 5% out of 5% that you will get a replacement.

But you will never be perfect without making mistakes

Thanks,
gin

Even with the lousy record of customer (dis)service WL has at least try. You have nothing to lose and lots to gain.
Check out the members list or map here to see if anyone near you might have a power metre for taking actual results of your output. That will go a long way to getting some useful results too.
All is not completely lost, yet.

BTW, welcome to LPF.
Play safe, have fun, and read read read. The more you read the more you can save up your buck$ for those "just gotta have it" purchases that coincidentally develop from reading about things you didn't know.

1. Contact customer service.

2. Open a dispute with your credit card company or paypal if you can.

3. Never buy WL again.

4. Welcome to the forum:)

I don't know if this helps but when i corrected bugs on their site and was sorting getting a free wicked core i got an email reply almost instantaneously (and this was for something free lol)
Perhaps if you emailed the same email and say you're having issues and if they can forward your emails to someone who can help.
(bugs@wickedlasers.com)
I'd only use this if you can 100% not get anywhere with the above suggestions though.
Good luck!

I would recommend finding a member on the forum who you can send your laser to so they can test the power of it. That way you can show the results to wicked and demand a refund. Honestly though if I were you I would just open a dispute with your credit card company and say they didn't actually send you what your ordered (just lie and say they sent you a box with a paper weight in it). Get your refund and never buy from Wicked lasers again. Wicked is the only company I would ever do this with because they have been taking advantage of unsuspecting people for years now and they GENUINELY deserve it. LoL someone needs to DDoS there forum

If you weren't so far away I would offer to help you out with an LPM reading.
Here is what you need to do....
First contact them via support@wickedlasers.com
Also Go here and fill out the RMA RMA Request Page
If you read their webpage you will find:

"Wicked Lasers products can be returned for either a Refund or for a Replacement of the same item. Wicked Lasers' standard guarantee is a 1-year limited warranty. A 3-year extended warranty may be purchased on some items. In order to receive your RMA number in a timely manner, please fill out the form below with as much information as possible.
If you have any general questions or issues please contact Wicked Lasers Support by emailing support@wickedlasers.com or by calling 1-877-952-7377."

You can also try using different batteries. It is entirely possible you have a shoddy set of AAA's even if they are fresh out of the pack (depending on brand, battery age, etc) Many times lower voltage AAA cells can be responsible for dim output.
If your problem persist after grabbing a fresh set of energizer lithium AAA batteries then follow the above steps and you can choose to get your refund or get a replacement laser that meets the minimum power guarantee.

I Hope this helps you. Also please post pics of your laser. The E3 is a slick host and I would love to see it. Maybe a comparison pic next to another laser if you have any. Also a picture of the spot would be nice too. I may order one soon.

I did get a prompt reply from them, with a few suggestions about putting tin foil on the end cap (as apparently this sometimes doesn't make proper contact with the battery) however mine seems perfectly well engineered.

I see you have the same laser, can I ask you if it burns paper/bursts balloons etc as you'd expect?

Maybe I'm anticipating too much. I just tried it out in (cloudy) daylight and I can get a spot onto a building 400 yards away...

Hello.

My laser is underspec, its just a little bit stronger then my o-like 50mW so it can't even light amatch or anything.. It pops a balloon if you put it close to the balloon..

Just to reiterate

Don't purchase from them, and dispute whatever you can. Dont take a replacement.....but consider yourself lucky that you even got yours:). I had to call three times a day for a week to get a response but I did get one. but welcome! I'm new here too! I have found that building your own laser can be easy although we are both new.

Sorry to hear you had so much aggravation.

I think I may well be after a full refund if they don't send me what I paid for by return of post.

I could also use the dread word "chargeback", I'm sure they have plenty of experience of being threatened with this.

Thanks for your suggestions, this seems like a clued-in forum - I really wish I'd spent a couple of days researching - I tend to make impulse purchases while drunk, and then regretting it.

Do people tend to mention if they have a meter of not? If anyone here is reading this and has one and could do a reading for me I'd be very grateful :)
