When will 532nm Prices be down?

Hello all! I am interested in a high powered 532nm lab module. I am currently selling some of my other lasers to pay for it, but i don't want to jump the gun.

With the recent release of the 1 Watt 520nm diodes, we expect DPSS prices to go down soon.

How long should i wait before i purchase my high powered green module?

CNI just offered me a binned 1.2 watt @ 1.5 watts for $530, and a binned 800mw @ 1 watt for $450

Will these prices go down soon?

Actually, I don't think DPSS prices will fall more than usual.

When 445nm came out the prices of 473nm didn't fall, even though 445nm diode lasers replaced 473nm DPSS lasers in a lot of cases.

Even though high powered 532nm lasers aren't "cheap", considering what they were going for even just a few years ago. The prices now aren't all that bad. I don't know if they will go down much more.

All right thanks guys! So now is a better time than ever to get my hands on some DPSS goodness?

Speaking of which, has anyone had experience with goldenstarlaser.com

i have never heard of them and they carry CNI's lasers...

I will check with CNI if they are a true distributor.

Also, has anyone had experience with CNI's binned lasers? As i said in the OP they said they would sell me a binned 800mw @ 1 watt for $450 and a binned 1.2 watt @ 1.5watt for $530

Due to the methods required to produce those lasers(not a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am kind of thing) I doubt they will go down much more at all. When I read your post I was honestly surprised to see the prices they offered you.

Seems like not too long ago that over 1W of 532nm was over a few thousand doll hairs.

PS - Go for the 1.5W. 80 bucks for an extra 500mW is a damn good deal IMHO. You will regret the 1W and always wonder what it would have been like to have the 1.5W.

From what I've been told, they HAVE dropped down quite a bit, as mentioned above.

I just got an email from lasever ..... 500mw 532. = $280. 800mw = $450

CNI 800mW is 390 during a group buy. I don't think there is a whole lot of margin left for them to let go of.

Used 532 may go down in price though, as people replace DPSS in things like projectors, with diodes.

Wow, only $390 for a CNI PGL!!!!!

I didn't know they could be had for so cheap, I thought the lowest price for one of those beauties would be around $500, guess I was way off

Without a GB you will end up paying that much once you account for extra fees like shipping. But yes, you can obtain them for less.

'Soon' might be optimistic.

Would the 473nm/445nm thing be equivalent tho? 473nm DPSS sets aren't exactly the cheapest things to produce, and the demand wasn't as widespread either. The price drop in an obsolete item would be attributed to sellers wanting to get rid of outdated stock, right? In the case of 473nm lasers I don't reckon there would have been much stock to be had in the first place.

Currently the 520nm diodes, while in mass production, are quite far from being 'widely used'. Efficiency is still lower than a well-aligned DPSS 532, and it'd probably be cheaper to continue operating 532nm lasers than to replace them with a new 520nm diode, wouldn't it?

532nm might drop in price on the near future but I'm quite convinced it will get more expensive on the long term.

Think about it: in less than two years most consumer applications (projectors and cheap pointers) will have replaced them with diodes. All that will be left are high end laser show projectors and lab equipment that needs the exact wavelength - and those can pay a much higher price per unit. The companies will figure this out soon enough and start to phase out 90% of 532nm production, and with the low offer prices will rise.

The next 6-12 months are probably the best time ever to buy a DPSS if you happen to like them. If you're doing it for the power just wait and you'l have a $100 3W diode

Can we think about it this way? (Curious)

Everytime someone purchases a *rare* wavelength they are becoming more common, hence the overall price will go down by $0.0000000001

I doubt 532nm will drop in price much, remember DPSS is a more complex design and I am sure the 520nm will become more popular as time goes on and possibly reduce sales of 532nm.
