so my green laser is supposed to be a 100mW one but i did a LPM test and it top out at 200mW at a constant rate of about 185mW ( yea i payed 21$ for it and yes is super overpowered). Heres the problem , this laser can cut electrical tape easy, it can cut black plastic bags, it burns black compressed and decompressed Styrofoam, BUT!! it cant light a match ?!!??!?! :tsk::tsk:

WHATS GOING ON ): PLEASE HELP !!

Hey thats good , one thing is the key to burning is.. the Focusing mechanism.. You simply cant burn a matchstick with an unfocused 200mW laser..

If your laser is not focusable, in that case use a magnifying glass to converge the beam to a point where it will burn the match!! Hope this answers your question!

Put on a pair of goggles, and focus the dot to the smallest you possibly can... 200mW really isn't all that much for burning.

Also try using a black match head, or coloring the head with a black marker.

i JUST WANT TO CRY SO BAD !!!!!!!! i later found out that my laser outputs 30mw ...): what a shame !!!!!!!!! i was doing this http://laserpointerforums.com/f42/simple-laser-power-meter-using-ir-thermometer-26341.html but i wasnt using a aluminum piece ...i was just focusing it to the IR directly , thats why i was getting such high readings ...maybe im doing something wrong,.. but i later saw some 100mw green lasers on youtube cutting electrical tape like butter and theres were i notice that my laser was underspected ):

PLEASE ANY HELP ON HOW CAN I POT MODE IT ?!!! OR MAKE IT STRONGER !! ^_^ THANKS !!!

Styropyro's pot modding tutorial video link should be here.

Search for pot modding. I wouldn't bother though. You'll probably end up destroying your laser especially if you're trying to up its power to its "original" output.

Emoticons go this way : )

Otherwise, I picture you as

srsly tho, Buy a better pointer. You can't modify a moped to go mach 2 and it doesn't matter how many weirdos tell you otherwise. I suppose you could drop it from a few hundred miles up, but, like the pointer, it won't last past the first run.

If you like to burn things but don't want ridiculous high powered lasers(like a 1W+ 445nm blue) go for a 405nm laser. They burn very well without needing to be super high powered or needing to be carefully focused on black surfaces only.

;)
-youtube video snip-

That is exactly how I modded my little 5mW pointer into a 1W burner.

so a 50mW 405 focusable laser will burn better than a 200mW focusable red laser ??
also styropyro said that red laser are great fore close range burning and long range burning ...will the 405 laser do the same ?? thanks !! for helping me out through this frustration :) LOL

405nm lasers are superior for any range burning over red because of the way the light is absorbed by surfaces. I don't know if it is 4x better though so I can't say if a 50mW 405nm would burn better than a 200mW 650nm but it might be. I wouldn't suggest any laser that low to be intended for burning anyway. A 200mW 405nm would burn like crazy compared to a 650nm.
