I don't have safety goggles. So if I were to accidently do damage to my eyes, I think a 30 mw would be safer then a 50mw? Plus I dont want my parents to get me safety goggles then they definitly won't get me a laser. Wait how about this one? http://www.rayfoss.com/productn.asp?ArticleID=3

Your going to avoid eye protection in order make your parents think that your laser isn't dangerous?
How are your parents going to feel when they have to pay for your eye surgery?
I'm not sure you should own a laser yet.

LOL, I said a similar thing in his other thread with the same conclusion, buy a laser AFTER you can afford it without your parents, and lets not forget he wants a 30mW instead of a 50mW so if he 'accidently damages his eyes, it wont be so bad'

EDIT: If he were my kid, I'd buy him the saftey glasses, and make him save up to buy his own laser.

Hell NO... Buy these here:Laser Glasses - UV to Green Lasers Protection 190-548nm :: Laser Safety :: Dragon Lasers
They are cheaper, and much better, and protect from BOTH green and blu-ray, rated at OD 4 for both wavelengths.
Ledshoppe is a good place to buy lasers, but just get the 50mW version, that way if its underspec you should still have atleast 30mW anyway;)

EDIT: The DL glasses also protect at OD 4 from 473nm as well, but it will be a while before you get a 473nm anyhow...

No problem, I wasnt trying to be a dick towards you, just figured if I could save your eyesight, and hundred thousands of dollars on horrifiying operations, then i've done my daily good deed:D

EDIT: Almost no one here would intentionally give you bad advice, its just we've see ALOT of ppl posting here about their crappy underspec lasers they got and are dissapointed in, just trying to save you some money, and help you get a laser you will be happy with.

I understand. I didn't realize how careless and stupid I was being until you pointed it out. I was being a irresponsible teenager. Thanks. I had a cheap red laser pointer at one or five mw but died out on me 3 days later. I was really sad. So how do I find out the shipping cost on the glasses and what are bonus points?
EDIT: The red laser pointer got me hooked onto lasers :). I heard green was brighter and the idea of a beam was awesome.

DL shipping to the USA is usually around $15(rather pricey for some reason) but to be sure, just add the glasses to your cart, and anything else you might want, then checkout, shipping will be calculated before you pay, and the bonus points are for frequent buyers, the more you have, the bigger discount you get on future purchase, think im up to at least 10% off if not more by now, but that only really helps you when you send them hundreds of dollars, one pair of saftey glasses wont give you many points, UNLESS you submit a review of them to frank, then he'll bump up your points:D

EDIT: Though since you already are sending the $15 for shipping, you should buy some other stuff too, to help justify the cost, for instance buy one or two transmission diffraction gratings, you'll get some wicked laser beam effects;)

Oh yeah, diffraction gratings can give you some AMAZING effects, and totally blows ppl's minds as well. You could hold off on the glasses as long as you only will use the laser for sky pointing and outside use away from anything shiny, but if you plan to use it indoors than saftey glasses are a must, especially for the standard burining and popping tricks.
The real kicker is that most ppl that get eye damage from lasers, actually have saftey glasses, they just were'nt wearing them at the time, but saftey is your #1 priority, just dont get paranoid about it.

Yea, at 50 mw I only plan to use it outside and pointing at the sky at night. I'll try to get the safety glasses with the transmission gratings ASAP.
EDIT: Do you think LEDshoppe is decent at least?
And also what about IR light?

Yeah ledshoppe, rayfoss and o-like are all good places to get your first, and they are *usually* up to spec, try to get one that is IR filtered. Do a search on IR filters if you want more info on them:D
