What can you tell from this picture.

So a few weeks ago Dinodirect finally got their **** together and shipped my pointer.
Should be a "532nm 50mW", but since i don't have access to the right equipment to see if is really does measure 50mW, i tried the second best.

Fed it 3,5VDC from a lab supply, and slowly turned the current up until the drivers limiter kicked in, then waited 5min and got this.

With a thermal camera the dot on the black box, (top left) got about 40°c after the 5min.
The current peaked at 361.0mha, but was mostly stable around 359.0-359.2 mha.

Can any of you say if these values matches with a 50mW diode?

Little about the pointer:
Cheap as hell.
NOT focusable.
Does pop black ballons after a few secs.
Can cut black tape. (with patience)
The diode sits in a brass caseing, and have no additional cooling.
It is deliverd (and powerd) with a single rechargeable ultrafire 18350- 800mha cell.

Your test only shows the current draw of the complete
Laser/Driver at the 3.5 volts that you used for the test..
not with fully charged batteries...

Here is a data sheet for the CR123A batteries recommended
for that Laser..

There are too many variables to make a power reading...
It's like sticking a wet finger in the wind to get it's speed.

The only way you will really know is with a Laser Power Meter..

So, a LPM is the one and only way to get a measurement.
I have acces to pretty much every kind of electrical measurement/test tool, besides a Laser power meter. :undecided:
Guess i have to get my hands on one of those.

Thanks, i know it's driven by a CR123A/18350 cell, and i also ditches the Ultrafire for a few 3v Surefire cells i had. They give some good juice. :D

Yeah am Laser Power Meter is the way to go..

I'm not sure what part of the Globe you live on... but
perhaps a Member with a LPM lives near you and could
meter your Laser.

^^^^ or... for about $120usd he could buy a new 2.5W usb lpm from bauer electronics, =p
