there are multiple threads about this but I will help you anyways.
For a beam to be visible in daylight or even night, you need dust particles of for or something for the beams light to reflect off of. This is called the raleigh effect. So if there is nothing in the air, even the beam of a 1000mW (1W) laser couldnt be visible. But I'm guessing there is dust or something where you live because it is uncommon for there not to be any.
It all depends on your budget. If you are willing to spend $150 at least, go for a 1000mw or higher because you will see the beam the most. I myself own a 100mW and the beam is visible starting around 5-6:00pm because of the lighting in my area(and yes this is outdoors). Indoors I can always see the beam of my laser.
Like I said, it all depends on how much money you are willing to spend. Some cheap and good websites to buy from are Welcome to O-like,the source of good quality laser products at unbeatable price and perfect service ! and ==LAZERER== Leading Laser Pointer Retailer - We Offer Power Certificate for Green Red Blue Laser Pointer | Laser Module |.
I hope I helped! DON'T FORGET TO BUY SAFTEY GOGGLES! :)
