Re: Verde Volcano - A Dual Diode Build 520nm 2300 mW Optical Corrected With 10x Linos

Thank you all for the kind words. I truly thank Ricardo for this build commission opportunity!! It took a very long time to realize and... It took many hands and minds to give birth !!

Again...Many obstacles were encountered....and many lessons were learned. I have become semi-skilled at deep boring thru Copper ....with not... too many problems !!

The add-on of a secondary Brass platform to pre-position the combining optics was a new twist. This system...gets the majority alignment done....and the Flexmount units finish the job !

I am a complete proponent of " Modularity "...whenever it can be applied. But...there are times when the best route... calls for epoxy to set the optical positioning...once best alignment has been achieved.

This build was the most challenging to date !! With " All hands on Deck " ...IMNSHO...the end product, thankfully turned out to be both functional and aesthetically pleasing.

SOOOOoooo...What's next ????

Happy New Year !!

Nice work, although you call yourself semi-skilled, compared to most you are very skilled. What's next? White Lightning! :)

Hahaha...Compared to a real Machinist...I am a HACK !!! Fortunately...right in my neighborhood....is a skilled Machinist !!!

Whenever I go to his shop...when I am stumped !!!...I attempt to soak up his years of machining experience....like a very dry sponge in a rain storm !!! Thankfully....he is a patient and kind teacher...and takes pity on my ignorance !!

And yes...There are some other HH builds in progress !!! And...My on-going ...consuming desire....to create new and inspiring Lumia display !!!

Soooo ... I have boosted the beam with about 350 mW of extra green juice !
How? I have eliminated the small parts applied around the beam exit hole to eliminate unwanted wings, reflections and aberrations.
But I have found a nice way to eliminate some of those ugly issues: the major cause of the trash around the dot was created by some unwanted unneeded bounce reflections of the beam against the walls of the aluminum beam exit hole! It was enough to paint the walls of the hole with a black satined paint! The black paint avoid the reflections and also absorbs part of the wings! Simple and nice, isn't it?
The idea was born looking some kind of lenses that Edmund Optics sell in their site: those lenses are black painted along the edges just to stop scattering reflections. And this was my major input to realize the blacked hole
Now the total power loss is very low: the output of each diode @2.3A is about 1400 mW, so the sum should be 2800 mW.
I reached 2600 mW, so the total power loss is only 200 mW.
How much optical components there are inside the Verde Volcano?
11 !!!
Yesss .... eleven !!
In detail:

2x G2 lenses;
1x 1/4 wave plate
1x bounce mirror
1x PBS
2x corrective optics
4x lenses inside the Linos BE.

Well ... this is a little miracle :beer::beer:

Cool trick, I would not have thought. I like the power increase, probably the highest power coaxial beam output 520nm green laser pointer on the planet.

The Verde Volcano evolution continues; getting better all the time. Amazing power output after all those optical components! :yh:

Incredible contraption! Someday you should show off your collection room. I'm curious how you store or display these incredible feats. Do you have a collection thread?

Thank you for bringing this to my attention. Otherwise, I might have missed this post. As usual, your builds are something to behold. I am never disappointed by any of them.

Amazing work--very clean/very professional--fantastic group effort, just the hours to design and accomplish. That it all came together as well as it did is a tribute to everyone's work.

Congratualtions to everyone invloved--you outdid yourselves on this one.

Wow, that's a magnificent build!

I'm impressed with how you stuck it all in a cylindrical enclosure, give the complexity of the optics alone i'd not even have considered doing that.

That said, can we have some pictures of the output pattern on a wall or something far away?
