So I have realized that there are many topics and threads with regards to Deal Extreme and their cost efficient (cheap) lasers. I thought I would begin a discussion about the products in general, so every one could share thoughts, experiments, and opinions.

I’ll begin with my input…

I have bought many lasers from DX. My reviews can be found on most of the ‘pen’ lasers on DX’s website. Most people in this forum have probably read some of my input on other threads already. That being said, let me begin with what I’ve learned with my dealings with DX. Shipping… for free, can’t beat it! When paid for express, sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn’t. Customer service is not bad. As for the lasers, I feel like if I never spent $1.00 on ANY of their enticing lasers, that I would have enough to buy my RPL now, and all I have to show for it is allot of cases, parts, broken optics, working drivers (with no diodes), pen housings (which I turn into red burning lasers) a few crap 5mw modules, 2 working 5mw lasers (over rated, but dirty optics), and a “true” 50mW laser with an embarrassing beam divergence.

I just thought I would help those out there interested and enticed by DX lasers, to have a chance to read up on some general information if anyone wishes to post their experiences.

BOTTOM LINE: Great laser for beginners (you wouldn’t want to buy your 16year old kid a Ferrari for his first car, you would probably want to start off with a civic). Would only impress amateurs. YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR, right?

I posted this link on another thread but it really inspired me: http://www.truveo.com/Laser-Compilation/id/161463732 = Optotronics RPL average 190mW (true power… lets see that action from the DX 200mW…I don’t think so!)

P.S. Thanks LPF members!

I have personally seen three DX lasers, including the one I own. ALL of them work great. Mine is definitely outputting more than the rated 30 mw. The beam is visible with lights on inside and is AMAZING at night. I know its kind of a pot shot whether you get a good one or not, but I haven't had any problems dealing with their customer service. Mine was well-worth the $24 price tag. This is just my two cents

I just posted something like this in another thread, but I think it deserves to be in this thread for everybody to see. I have handled 4 DX lasers, 3 DX30's and one DX50, and they are all great lasers. The DX50 on fresh batteries shreds matches as fast as my old X105 and was almost as bright as my old X105. All three of the DX30's pop balloons, and one of them lights matches with a lens.

Most people are happy with DX... as a toy laser. Nobody takes them as anything as serious as a more expensive one but the overall experience here seems to be positive. I'm sorry you've had a bad run.

Nope, I wish I made that video! Awe, never had a "bad" run with DX, I guess I just expect more, which is why I was never satisfied with their products. Perhaps I should have used Ford as my analogy, because I absolutely love my civic! Good points though, everyone, as I never go anywhere without a DX laser in my pocket (until I eventually get a better one)! ;D

...By the way, I have a chip driver for the DX 150mW, (2) 5mW modules, and (1) "fake" (not "true") 50mW lasers I wouldn't mind getting off my hand... just throwing it out there. I will probably put them on ebay.

I must have had an RPL's worth of DX greenies, most have been used as modules for projects (this was before they started selling the 5mw modules[at my request I may add :)])
The only dead ones are ones I have killed through my own stupidity and those modules have been reused with senkat reds so I have not lost a lot of money on them.
My worst experience is with DX red 70mw modules, I have had 2 deaths due to poor build/component quality on the drive boards.

On balance I am glad DX exist, the products have given me a lot of fun without costing the earth.
