Given the proper power supply, and heat maangement, yes.
They regulate the currents up to 1A, which is more than enough to power all available 5.6mm packaging diodes we all commonly use today.

So, did you get that diode out? If not, shoot some pictures and perhaps we can help you get it done faster and better.

No, and im not even sure if it's a diode anymore. Heres a photo of my aray. The laser diode labeled is dead, and if you look to the left of it, there are three more leads sticking out of what looks like a diode.

I have been trying to get the diode out of that heatsink, although now I think its probably not a diode.

Anyway, it makes no difference, since my housing isnt suposed to be here until thursday.

Is that a diode? If this helps you find it, its at about a 40 degree angle to the other diode. See it?

Every DVD burner sled has two diodes inside, one is 650-660 nm red diode that you want, for DVD media, and other is 780 Near infra red diode for CD media.

Diodes are extremely sensitive, you need to be very careful when extracting them.

Ahhh. Ok. So I want the one thats labeled? I just ordered one of those sleds, even though the one I have now might possibly work.

I have a diode which, when connected to the driver and power suply, just barely glows. How brightly should a diode glow without a housing? Is it safe to test them without a housing? I would hate to assemble the whole thing and then not have the diode work...

No it's not safe to test them without housing.

How have you connected it and to what?

You must always power a diode with regulated current supply, and the connection must always be permanent (soldered, not just clipped or twisted wires).

See? This is exactly what I mean. You just saved me a diode. Thank you sir. So, I should just wait for my new diode, trust the suplyer, plug it into my housing, and connect it via my driver to my power suply. And then hope it works?

Thanks! Now I just have to wait a week for all the parts... I might, possibly, go insane. Im waiting for parts for my bike, my boat, my tablet, my radio, my laser... SHIP FASTER.

First - that thing that you don't think is a diode *is* a diode. It's the infrared diode. Secondly, the diode that barely glows is *still* dangerous! It's just near infrared, so your eyes are not very sensitive to it.

Ahhh. So I should just wait for the new ones. Thanks for the warning! I ordered 3 diode arays and 3 housings, so with any luck...

Awsome! My laser housings arived. Now how am I supposed to install the diode? I cant make head or tail of it.

The head is the one with the nose and eyes, the tail is the one that wags when you talk to it...
Hold the diode with the pins facing you, and one at 12 o'clock, one at 3 o'clock, and one at 6 o'clock. For a red or blue, the pin at 12 o'clock ids the LD+. For a RED, the pin at 3 o'clock (attached to the case) is LD- and the pin at 6 o'clock is most likely not connected. For a BLUE, the pin at 6 o'clock is LD- and the pin at 3 o'clock is not connected. For an I.R. the pin at 12 o'clock is LD-, the pin at 3 o'clock is LD+, and the pin at 6 o'clock is either monitor diode - or disconnected (but dont tell anyone that I told you the pinouts for the I.R.s).

You may have already seen it but check out the guide in my sig below, (the one that is still working!). It's got a lot of the information you'll need inside, with links to all kinds of useful stuff, like pinouts for various diodes, etc...

This thread reads like you'll be lasering in no time so enjoy... but safely!!! :D

Sorry, thought I was being sort'a helpfull.
What is it you can not make heads or tails of?
There are about a billion threads on mounting your diode in an Axiz. Maybe try the 'Search' function.
