Hey TJ, do you think a different collimating lens would make any difference in divergence? I have one from one of the 405nm pens that I took apart for "science" and if it would improve it I'm all for it.

I'm not a pro when it comes to optics. In fact I'm not a pro on most laser related operations. I've just read a lot the 3 years I've been here.

You could always try, but the coating is not the same.

I like the torch form factor because they have the push button tailcaps and fit in the hand a little more comfortably. It also seems to me that because they are larger and beefier that they will hold up a little better. This could all be in my head but that's how I look at it.

YMMV

i just get annoyed having to focus it all the time if I'm outside in my backyard and go from like in front of me on the ground to like 50 ft away to a fence

Just point it at the furthest thing possible you can see, and focus it to its tightest beam.

If I understand focusing, it's really a matter of where the smallest , most focused beam is for burning but with something like this if you set it to further away it just results in a little wider beam at the aperture. Not all that noticeable.

BUT this is my understanding. I could be talking out my a$$

but then won't it be unfocused at close things?

That's why they are focusable, so you can focus them close for burning, or at a distance for pointing. You can't have both unless you use an external lens. If you don't want to have to focus it every time, focus it once and put a drop of glue on the lens thread. Done.

I have done well ordering from lasersman.com. I have developed a close relation ship with a staffer there named Kath. If you want to place and order from there be sure to contact her first. Try this coupon code HZLMlaserpointer for 10% off and free shipping. It is the cheapest legitimate site I could find. I have ordered 4 times from lasersman and the shipping is a bit slow but I am happy with the service. Kath also has a facebook page to reach her on. Kath Smart | Facebook
