Strange "ring" problem

I recently bought an NewWish bd-5 5mw laser pointer, it was great for the first week or so and the i noticed this ring that appears around the dot. I cant take the cap off, it seems to be liek fused onto it, and i managed to get the cotton on a q-tip small enough to get in there with some windex but nothing happened. There is still a lot of what looks like scattered particles around the dot. Is there something i can do, can any give me some tips please? thank you.


Update - i took a picture with my phone and it seems that there is another dot that does the exact opposite of the main one, wich looks like its really big but it comes out clear with a strong green ring. are the 2 dots caused by mode hopping or w.e?

Your post wasn't particularly clear, do you mean the little tiny dot up and to the right of the larger one, or has your dot split into more than one while you're using the laser?

ok ill try and make it clear. Normal use - the dot is fine and strong with a lot of, i guess u can call it debris, around it that is very bright. When i try to take a picture of it, another dot the small one, appears, IN THE PICTURE ONLY THO. The normal dot is the one that appears big in the picture. That is the one and only dot that appears when the laser is turned on. The second (top right) appears only through the camera.

Also the laser seems to break some times and disappear or the beam will come out at a different angle for a second or 2, i noticed that when the laser doesn't come out that under the lens cap there is a red glow. Does this mean that the laser diode is getting loose?

Should buy a 2nd one if it gets bad enough or send back to the company and they will replace

Although i think sending items back costs you in shipping almost as much as the laser itself

Do not stare into that dim red glow, that is a huge amount of ir, very bad.

well, it sounds to me that the little dot in the upper right of the picture is leaking IR light. and does that light show up around the dot when you shine it on a dark surface like black?

I think the little dot on the camera is just a reflection inside the lens. That happens with low quality cameras. The scattered dot is just from dirt or dust. Try cleaning it a couple more times with cotton or microfiber. Just don't spray the windex or cleaning solution directly into it. if it doesn't go away it probably has dirty internal optics which can only be cleaned by disassembling the pointer. Don't try it though, it would be a pain in the ass. The problem with the laser turning on sounds like either the batteries are low or the temperature isn't right. Newwish pointers are known to be unstable when they are too cold or warm. To check if it is mode hopping look up "transverse modes" in wikipedia and shine the beam through a magnifying glass... if the dot appears like 2 or more dots when it is expanded on a wall then it is mode hopping.

ok thanks guys, i wasnt directly starring into the laser tho i held it so it went off to the side and i could quickly glance into the lens cap cuz i couldnt take it off, i tried cleaning a few more times with some cotton but it just stayed the same so i decided to give up and just leave it alone it was only 15$ anyways - some dam online store in hong kong lol 6cents for the laser, 15$ for shipping, and bobobob there is no second dot when it shined on a black surface. ONCE AGAIN THANKS GUYS.
