I own a few 532nm already but I am quite curious on 520nm still thinking of getting one or not. Is there a huge different between two?

520nm is a much more "pure" green. When you look at a 532nm beside a 520, the 532 looks positively yellow.

Not a huge difference, you would have to view them side by side. The advantage of 520nm is it's direct diode and not DPSS, it won't break easy, it's output is stable, it's not temprature sensitive. You can also get one that's more powerful for a lower price than a 532nm, that is if you're looking for something hi power, the advantage to a 532nm is better beam specs.

Compared with 532 nm it looks like a truer green. They're also brighter at night, more stable, and come in higher powers. The only downside is they have bad beamspecs compared to 532nm lasers.

Let's not forget divergence, the 520 in the 1w class is MM and has MM divergence, a 532 is a real laser that can make a TEM00 dot.

There are some single mode 515nm 100mw diodes, DTR sells a nice Nichia.

Very useful information. It is good to have both (if you have spare money :D)

I am hoping to get one soon and see that great beautiful green first hand:whistle::whistle:

@Sta why all the dead lasers bud, its sad to see.

A lot of my early lasers were bought from... low-quality websites. Some bad luck also factored in there.

damn you lost a 1000mW green!! those cost a lot back in the day... are you planing to replace it or get a new one?

I've thought about it. It is unlikely at this point that Thejoker301 would replace it, but I may buy or build a new one at some point.

How did it die?

On October 31, 2015, it suddenly developed significant splash, then within a few hours the power started to diminish and the laser started emitting 2 beams. It still emits 2 beams at very low power. Prior to that point I had never removed the lens, so I have no idea what could have caused the problem.

Seems like a good candidate for a DIY fix. Just gotta put a new diode in the thing.

Well, removing the module from the heatsink is easier said than done, and either way, I wouldn't use that specific host again. The paint is horrendously chipped.
