(Simple?) Green laser build?

I want to build a simple green laser. It really doesn't have to be anything spectacular and if it could be kept on an $80 budget that would be nice. I just bought my first laser a bit back and this is truly addicting good fun. I would like to put one together with as few basic components as possible just to try my hand at building because I really do enjoy this. I don't know where to start with buying things but I have read a couple build guides, any help would be nice!

i would start with a red or violet build. Green in very hard to make due to the crystals and tricky alignment. and there are only a handful of people that have made them on this forums. Read the stickys!

You sure I can't find preconfigured parts for the complicated things? That's what I was wondering.

Hmm well not really, basically you have to buy the crystals yourself and line them upright and so on. There is a really good post in the "green Laser" section about building your own green laser from scratch. You could always look into buy a module from o-like and just picking your host. Jayrob has some great diy kits in the Buy/Sell/Trade section. check them out! hope that helpped

For an $80 budget you are better off trying a violet or red build than doing one of the green kits because a green kit with decent power will cost you well over $80. A minimal 100mW violet build would only cost you $30, but if you want to make it nice $40-$60 sounds more reasonable. Same with a 250mW red.

1nation - If you're really bent on building a green from scratch, you may want to start with composite crystals(ND:YVO4 and KTP glued together). They are much simpler to align compared to a separate YVO4 and KTP crystal.
