Is this a sign of harmful IR?

My quality lasers are still weeks out so last week I ordered some cheap ones off ebay to keep me occupied while I wait. They were free shipping and 100% money back so I gave them a try.

The one in question is a 50mW 532nm. With my eagle pair goggles the dot is quite tight but I quickly looked at the dot at a distance without the glasses and could see a massive halo of green light. The beam is still very tight so i was wondering if this excess green light emission a sign of massive IR?

It could be my imagination but my eyes felt strange from even looking at the dot for a few seconds.

I will probably send the green one back. The other one a 405nm has pretty poor divergence but Ill see how it does outdoors at night first before I decide to keep it or not. The green one is making me nervous though.
thanks

It's not from ir. Ir leakage won't be in any way visible, unless you're lasing an ir detector.

If the beam, and the dot through the safety glasses look good, then the "halo" is likely splash. The light tends to splash on most surfaces, creating a bright area around the dot.

Try pointing at a matte black surface, this reduces the splash by alot.

Thanks Chaos Lord. That's good information to know. I didn't think the splash itself was IR but was concerned that along with tons of green light if IR was also being sprayed all over the room. Its pretty bad. I'll take more pics tomorrow of it at a greater distance.. The splash has their own dots and its everywhere. That oic was only a couple feet distance.

So what do you think? I bought this laser to use indoors preferably without safety glasses but I'm worried since its spraying light all over the place if its pretty bad idea.
Thanks again.
Cheers mate.
