Should this laser burn? Thats not why i bought this one but have seen other 100mw green burn. mine leaves tiny marks on electrical tape but no burning like on the videos floating around here. i have it focused to a point too. Im starting to think its not capable. how strong should a 532nm be for it to actually burn or pop a balloon? thanks

Are you holding it dead still...like braced against something? Rayfoss lasers are 15% plus or minus the advertised rating, but that should still put a tiny pinhole in electrical tape. As for balloons, put a black sharpie mark on it and it will pop no problem.

First let it warm up!
then focus it all the way out to a point!
then you should be able to cut tape, light matches, and even sting skin!
I was able to do all of this in an instant.

Since it being your laser... I believe you. But i had it on electrical tape for almost a minute after showing it off for a bit and still didnt burn my hand either. i have two different batteries as well and both are charged. but ill try again later. My girl is more fascinated at seeing it burn than i am BTW.

did you obey the duty cycle? did you allow adequate time to cool?are you sure you have it focused to where the the dot is large on the wall? have you found the focal point?
another tip is putting a little pressure on the tape and start at the top! try these then tell us what happened!

perfect! I knew that the laser worked great I was afraid that maybe it could have gotten broken in transit to your house!

Well I recently got a 100mw laser pen style from Rayfoss and it can burn somewhat, I wouldn't call it a burner, more of a good sky pointer. Mine has horrible divergence though, I am waiting to hear from Faona. from about 6 meters the dot size is around 5cm. Much worse then even my cheap $15 e-bay pen. I hope I end up having a good exp with Rayfoss. As far as burning mine needs to be within .5 meters of the object. If I end up with a better working one I will update you.

I'm glad it's working for you. 100mW should burn all sorts of stuff, especially when it's focusable!

If you don't already have safety glasses for green + IR, get some. It makes focusing easier and it makes using your laser a whole lot safer for your vision.
