I restate what I posted earlier.....

Yeah... that's normal for a cheaper Green pointer... the Xtals are probably
heating up... that's one reason why Laser Pens have a short on time...

and HERE is the schematic I used...

so...should I just use battery and dismiss the idea using an external PS?

what do you mean short on time? like I should only turn it ON for a FEW seconds at a time? or does this mean SHORT lifetime?

That circuit should work (it outputs 3.08volts)..
My problem with that is that you need to drop 9 volts and that translates into the
regulator heating up getting rid of the voltage drop...

I mean that you Laser Pointer will use a short ON time then a longer OFF time (to let the Xtals
cool down... and so on...
It is also called a "duty cycle"...

oh ok.. I thought short lifespan..cuz that would REALLY suck! now I get it.. lol sorry for the ignorance.. :D

thanks for clearing that up jerry..

btw, since you mentioned duty cycle, I was wondering CAN I DRIVE this LP with PWM?? heheh I mean power given to the LD(and driver) is PWMd? is this correct? im just asking.. :p

hhmmmm you said duty cylce
