Operating tempatures for green lasers?

I just purchased my first green laser and it is on it's way now.
It has an operating temperature of 15°C to 30°C ( 59F- 86F )

My question is why? I understand the diode can heat up and deform or break due to overheating but why is there a low temperature range as well? If we need to duty cycle a laser in order for it to be kept cool, why do cold temperatures matter? Is it not better for it to be cold than too hot? How does it effect the beam? Thanks for the info.

neokeelo;

I have seen that with a few green lasers.

They operate fine when warm, but don't lase when cold.

Green 532nm lasers use DPSS. This means the diode is actually an infrared one shining through a set of crystals. These crystals operate less efficiently at high or low temperatures.
Think of it as an enzyme in a human - at low temperatures it works slowly and can almost stop, at high temperatures it dies.
