Not this again! What's the Polarity?

I just received an upgraded Galileo from daguin, which has been upgraded to a 200mW module (I assume from O-like, or DX). It looks just fine, but there's no indication of polarity.

The module is the sort that has a coiled contact sticking out of it. This is a RCR123A setup (3.6V). I don't have any testing apparatus handy at the moment (such as a low voltage source).

Coming fresh off letting the magic smoke out of an CNI PGL-III-C by guessing this wrong, I'm going to ask here first before I test this unit.

It's case positive.
All greens I have ever seen/used are.
Using a 3.6V RCR123A might be a bad idea. Depending on which module was used, voltage over 3.6V could damage or kill the pump diode.
If it is DX type, stick with 3.0V primaries or <3.6V Rechargeables.

I take "Case Positive" as meaning: negative to the module contact (while most flashlights with positive to the head, would therefore be "case negative").

Is this common for these? That CNI was negative to the module contact also.

edit: I see your saying that all the ones you've seen are, so that's a "yes".

Regarding which module is installed, I'll have to double-check with Dave. He did send it with a 3.6V cell, but I do have 3.0 cells handy for testing.

Case Positive it is; I put in a 3V primary cell and it runs fine. Thanks for the info, PA_Pierce, hopefully my days of killing greenies with stupid polarity errors is at an end. I PM'd Dave about which module is in here.

BTW... I have done some tests on Green Modules purchased from
O-Like that are rated at 3.0Volts...
I use 3.6Volt exclusively on those modules and the Laser output is
even a bit higher.. I have tested these modules as high as 5 Volts
with a variable PS and I have yet to blow a module...
If you are worried just reduce the cycle time a bit...

DPSS green will always be case positive as the IR pump diode is case positive, unless someone goes through the trouble of isolating the diode from the case for reasons unknown to me
