Default Noob question about first laser

Hello Everyone, I was just poking around one day and came across this site which got me interested in the laser hobby. As my first purchase I read around and it seemed that people liked the Optitronics GLP-150 Premium +150mw Green Laser. I had read that people were able to burn with this laser. The first thing I tried was to light a match from close range, lets say less than 6 inches and I was not able to get it to light. What type of items should I be able to burn with this laser if any? Is there anything that can be modded on this to improve its burning capabilies or would you recommend getting into a DIY kit? Thanks in advanced!

Mark

I think you may need to focus the light through a lens, so that it's a small point before it will burn. You might be able to pop balloons without a lens, but you'll need to hold the laser steady, and have fresh batteries in the laser.

If the match isn't very dark you could try putting a black dot on it with a sharpie so it will absorb more heat.
