NEW REVIEW: 5mW laserlands pen

So I finally received it. Purchased the day after Merry ("laserlands") joined the forum to find out more about the seller and its products. Order was placed on Dec 14, shipped on Dec 15 and I got it today - Jan 27. So it took quite a while. Maybe because of winter holidays (Jan 1-10 here in Russia).
But I have to say that headphones I ordered from DX were shipped on Dec 16 and I received them on Jan 6. So DX shipping turned out to be twice as fast :shhh: Despite this claim: http://laserpointerforums.com/f44/does-dx-care-about-christmas-d-d-46156.html#post623913 But bear in mind that DX doesn't ship the very next day ;)

Communication with the seller was superb and is summed up very good in this post: http://laserpointerforums.com/f41/do-anybody-know-www-laserlands-com-46189.html#post624219

OK, now to the pen. This is a regular pen most of you very well familiar with:
5mw Green Single Beam Laser Pointer - $5.90 : Laserlands
... so no comments here, except batteries wobble a bit more than I expected (this is my fist pen). But overall it looks nice and feels sturdy, so in that regard it exceeded my expectations.

Brightness... it varies. This laser certainly prefers warm. 19°C is not enough for it. And for me too LOL It's been below -20°C outside for a few days now :yabbmad: At 19°C ambient temperature it needs 20-30 seconds to reach full brightness. But in summer it will probably be just fine from the start.
The dot is a nice round one and the beam is visible in a dark room when you look at it from the side and in a mildly lit room when you look down the beam. The laser does look about 5mW to me when it's warm.

Bottom line: I'd recommend this laser to anyone who needs it for pointing or star-pointing. The dot is visible at all times and when the laser warms up, it becomes just a little bit too bright. At $5.90 + $3 shipping you probably can't beat the price. And more importantly it works right out of the box, unlike my 30mW Romisen laser from DX I had to send back and wait another 2 months.

I will be reviewing laserlands' laserking later. And I will compare shipping speeds again. The batteries and charger from DX left Hong Kong on Jan 21 and the laserking left China on Jan 22. So again, one day difference... place you bets ;)

200mW for comparison (same outside temp, same camera settings, but still the difference between 5mW and 200mW is more visible to my eye, so don't be too excited ;)):

Very nice review, I hope you are having good fun with your laser :D
For that price, it makes a good gift also.

Oh... I had a feeling something's wrong, now I know what that was :) LOL
Thanks for thumbs up.

Yep, it will go to my father when I receive the laserking :) But right now that's the only assembled greenie I have.

As for quality, button feels solid, threads don't wobble. And I guess you want some pics :) OK, just give me a minute... EDIT: first post updated

Oh nice pics!
I can see that the headpiece is much shorter than typical new wish, and also a spring contact is different...

How about some beamshots now ? :p

Made a video, now that it's dark enough outside (and don't forget it's -20°C). Also noticed this laser has a really nice divergence. It's about as good as I can focus my dilda actually. That's pretty impressive.

Downloading video, and yeah, +1 from me also!

EDIT: WOWAWIWA! Awsome beam visibity, lifelike video of a laser! How'd ya do that?
And I like your safety with lasers, you only pointed it at the trees and at the sky, never on the road or on neighbouring buildings!

It is definetly 30+mW of that laser! I will consider buying this one when I need a gift for someone...

I also ordered one of these along with a 50mW module. I have a DX 5mW, and when the laserlands 5mW gets here, I'll compare the two.

I'm really impressed with the divergence... have you measured it?

I don't have the tools for precise measurements, but it's 1.15 mRad or less. Beam diameter at aperture is around 1mm, at 7.8m it's about 10mm (brightest part + halo).

Here is a pic of the dot as viewed through goggles (at 7.8m distance):

I got mine a couple days ago. I was satisfied at first, it was $5.90, so nothing to complain about right? Well, after one day of regular shining it around, nothing out of the ordinary, it seems inconsistent. when I turn it on, it reverts to a very low green laser (0.1mw) for 15 seconds, then returns to 5mw. I don't know if the optics are misaligned or if its warming up, but my DX pen doesn't do this. I cleaned the contacts. It still lases though....well sometimes.
Also, the warning label on mine looks different...
If you get a working laser, its a great product, not over-spec, and safer for your eyes if you are concerned.

Normally, a review would include power measurements, battery type, divergence measurements, current draw, etc. All that boring scientific stuff.
Any other info?
