Ok, I'll stop by batteries plus tomorrow. Wal-Mart probably doesn't carry these right?

I'm glad to see everything worked out and that Faona responded. WM definitely has the batteries, I've even seen them at pharmacies, shoprite, etc, they are pretty common although for use in a laser non rechargeable batteries get too expensive fast. For test purposes it should work well.

Alright I'll check there first. Last time I was there they didn't even have CR2 batteries which I thought were more common than CR123s.

I guess it depends on the individual locations. Personally I never had any trouble finding cr123 batteries though, one time even needed a battery urgently, so ran to closest store, a rite aid i think, and they had one, but it was $8 which is kind of high IMO. (Still I needed the battery:))

I am gonna have to ask you to slap yourself silly if the battery solves the laser problem though :na:

Believe me, I will. I don't think it will fix it though. Last night I tried a last second test. I put in the 16850, turned it on and let the dot dim, then as quickly as possible I swapped it for the 16340 and turned the laser on. It didn't start strong like usual. The dot was a dim as before. I let it sit for 10 minutes with the 16340 battery in it and when I turned it on it started strong and dimmed as usual.

So yea... has to be the laser...

 Joke's on you, I love being proven wrong.

Seriously though, would be silly to go to all this effort if it is just that crappy charger not working. Besides, you only need the battery for 1 minute max... after that well, there is always a use for a CR123 :)

Edit: You could get a multimeter... that was the original plan.

Well I'm leaving to drive to my parents house for Easter in an hour so I'll swing by the store on the way and get a battery. Don't be surprised if I don't post back with results until late tonight or tomorrow.

No rush, enjoy the holiday:san: but do post back... I'm tempted to place a bet with a friend who's also been following this thread.

Yea so... I went to EVERY store in town that I suspected sold batteries of any kind. No one has a 3.7V CR123. They're all 3v.

:(

Even three volt should work in theory.... but that sucks. I'm really surprised that an electronics store wouldn't have some.

I guess you can just send the laser back. Without a different battery to test only other option is to test eh battery you have, to see if it is charged.

Considering price of shipping... I kind of wanted you to avoid that if there was a way.

a simple test to see if the battery works. requires a simple motor, or led. get two AA batteries. power either with the AA, then the lithiums. if the motor sounds faster, or the led is slightly brighter then it is not the battery. if the lithiums seem the same, it MAY be the battery. alternatively, if you have a high draw led, power it up and see if it dies quickly. anything with relatively high draw around one amp should stop the battery quickly if it is the battery.

I know it's been a long while but I might as well update this. I shipped the laser back but Rayfoss says they never received it. Guess it's my fault for not spending the extra on tracking.
