New O-Like green modules

You think it is the same as DX? It looks the same but who knows. I guess we can't use Jayrobs Green laser builds with this crap.

The linked module is likely the same crap as DX.

The dimensions of these new modules are about the same as the old ones, so I see no reason why these cannot be used with kits.

Wait, the Opto Premium 150mW pens use the new style o-like 150mW which is possibly the same as the DX 150mW modules? I would have never guessed. Maybe Opto LPM's each module before they use it in a pen, eliminating a lot of the crap modules.

Yes...
The opto pens seem to be up to spec, but they use the same module type as DX sells.
My guess is that the modules now being sold at O-like are the same type as the Opto/DX modules... But hopefully Susie got us the "good" modules like the ones used in the Opto pens.
The DX modules had alignment issues and they will die if >3.6V is used. DX probably gets QC rejects to get such low prices.
If these modules are up to spec, they should be pretty good. The only con is that they cannot be used with RCR123s or 18650s.

Same dimensions but what about the current. Can't use the CR123's

Edit: Just read your recent post. I looks like Jayrobs green kits wont work for the new ones

Adding a diode or two in series with the driver should drop the voltage enough for a safe current... it would just take away from the simplicity of the kits.

This sucks... I can't use Jayrobs DIY green kit now.

If its 1 amp and 200mws then the running voltage would be 0.2? Weird

Interesting. I guess it's possible that DX, Opto, and O-like get their modules from the same manufacturer. Maybe DX buys the QC rejects to sell for a really low price, and Optotronics and O-like buy the good quality modules. Hmm :thinking:

Although, I don't plan to use 3.6v batteries, I asked Susie about voltage before buying the module. And she said I can use it with them, but it's not good for the diode (in the long run). Pretty much the same thing she said about using 3.6v CR2s with dilda, that I ordered earlier.

I've heard this statement before, but it still doesn't make sense to me. Isn't the whole point of a driver to regulate the current to the diode independently of input voltage?

Of course...
But remember that this is "generic" laser equipment.
We get what we get for the (very) low price we are paying.
If better performance is desired, get a module from CNI or any other manufacturer on the higher-end of the hobby.

Don't forget that this is not premium stuff, guys...
It is purely "bang-for-your-buck" product.

These modules can be used with 3v RCR123s
Here is the spec of the USA made Tenergy batt, just remember to switch the charger to 3v

While talking to Jack at Opto, he mentioned that Opto provides their own crystals to their overseas manufacturer.

Thanks laze_doctor, hopefully he clears it up. I bought some 3.6V RCR123's that I planned on using in a jayrob DIY Green with a 200mW module.

I've been in contact with Susie. She says using 3.6-4.2V may result in premature diode failure.
I know this... my DX200 module blew up with an 18650.
I'm just trying to get some reassurance that theses do not have the same alignment problems as the DX modules.
The over-voltage can be avoided just by using a different battery type or using a diode in series to drop voltage.

Did you ask Susie if she tested her modules for alignment? after all she's only listing 7 available on the website, & for the extra dollar they're charging you'd expect them to be top notch modules.
