Mhhh. I just ordered a few of these modules. Hoping that they won't be out of stock or that my order will be completely fulfilled. It's my first DX order, and I ordered a bunch of tools and accessorise in the same order...

If and when I get the modules, i'll experiment with one or two to see if I can squeeze out a bit more "oumph" out of them, and report my findings on this thread. Does anyone know if they can have continuous duty cycle (or at least, a couple of hours) if properly heat sinked (for the 30mW/50mW units) ?

DX will send partial shipments as parts of your order become available. IIRC you will have to sign for each one :(

Most of these will be adjusted to "maximum" output already. They are all the same module. They are "rated" by simply adjusting them and recording the output.

As far as I can tell, they will NOT be useful for hours at a time (even with heat sinking). You might be able to do this with TEC, but I think YOU would be the first doing this experiment

Also, be in no hurry with DX. The recommendation is to order it and forget it. DX does NOT normally keep stock on hand. They order from suppliers as orders come in. It can take weeks just for them to get the product from their supplier. Then they have to process it and ship it to you from China

Peace,
dave

Thaks Dave, yeah I know about the long delays at DX, but i'm in no hurry. It will come when it comes...

As for the greenie modules, I guess running these at recommended specs (or below) with a good sink will permit me to have longer duty cycle I imagine?

A TEC is one of those Peltier Thremoelectric modules isn't it? So that stuff gets that hot? wow... :(

I have one in my components library... but I never tried it... One more experiment to add to my resumé!

My reason for that question was that I intended to install one in a good heat sink and try to use it in a "small club laser show" projector I'm trying to assemble right now. I guess i'll have to shell out a bit more dough and buy one of DX's labby green modules, I guess they'll be more resilient to heat...

Anyway, I dont want to get too much ahead of myself, I still have to start working on that lovely blue ray diode I purchased a few days ago... Waiting for my #$&?% bank to put my money in my Paypal account (thakes a whopping 12 days!!!)

I ordered two of these on Aug. 1st. They still show "waiting for supplier" right now.
It will be interesting to see what they are and how much difference there is between the two units when they arrive. I'm not holding my breath, DX has taken up to 90 days on some orders in the past ... It would be nice if they put out even 50mW ...

Ordered a 100mW version a week ago for review - wish me luck!

BTW, while they CLAIM this particular item ships in 2-5 days, mine is likewise still stuck in "Waiting on Supplier".

MarioMaster & daguin, when exactly did you place your orders for these?

billg519, if the 200mw model that you get only puts-out 50mw, then these are WAY under-spec'd (as well as overpriced), and you got ripped-off!

If the midrange models are just 200mw units that could not pass QC at full strength, then I am hopeful that those lower power units should be relatively close to rated power, or if I get lucky even a bit above!

I ordered mine on the 28th, said waiting for supplier, then packaging, now processing. Gotta love it. It's like a GB. Maybe if enough of us order them, we can reach the 100 units mark and they will actually order them from their supplier.

Never trust what the website says about the "ships in X-Y days". I have an order there which was placed over a week ago and was "In Stock" and hasn't even been processed yet (all items are "Ready").
As many said, you should order and just forget about it, one month or two later you'll get a nice unexpected gift from the mail :p

Thanks for the update - MarioMaster, daguin, and yobresal! It appears that the ppl that were able to jump on this first (7/27-28) are now all in packaging/processing! billg519, you still stuck in "Waiting on Supplier"?

Maybe if enough of us order them, we can reach the 100 units mark and they will actually order them from their supplier.

yobresal, with the good initial response they got from LPF members, you would think they would have ordered a few extra from the factory! I did notice that on their web site, on some of the lower-power models they had apparently done so, as those have now been changed to say - "In Stock: ships in 1 to 3 days" (and someone reported a 20mw that had actually shipped!)

But alas, the descriptions on the 100mw & 200mw models remains unchanged - apparently the $33 model is just too "pricey" an item for DX to keep in stock!

UPDATE - someone reported receiving a 20mw! (Played with it, but apparently didn't have a strong enough battery to test it properly?) -

DealExtreme: $8.81 20mW 532nm Green Laser Module (3V 11.9mm)

Still, would be interesting to know if that low-power model has that big resistor on it?!

I see on DX's page that charliebruce is also now in "packaging", from his post here, it appears he also ordered around the end of last month.

I have an order there which was placed over a week ago and was "In Stock" and hasn't even been processed yet

I know the feeling, nikokapo! I ordered a True 5 a week ago that has been stuck in "In Stock" status all that time, and it finally switched to "Packaging" today!
