Joined today this forum. Readed some sticky topics and introduced myself in the welcome section.

I have some points which have to meet my requirements:

- Green laser pointer
- Iron/aluminium or steel casing (no plastic)
- Beam have to be seen at least 80miles (how further how better) with no big distortion at the end of the beam
- Price maximal 250 euro (375 dollar)

I wont use this for burning purpose, but for scientific purpose. So a small bright beam which can point verry far is good for me.

When i surfed around abit i came on a site called "Warnlasers". They have several company's in the world. And also in our neighbour country "germany". If i buy my laser there, theres no check from the costumer authorities because our borders are open for import.

Does anyone know, if the laser pointers from Warnlaser are good quality? I like the waterman serie 150mw.

If you know any other good company's which sell these let me know.

:thanks:

if you want a 150mW get it from optotronics, but i don't think the beam will be visible for 80 miles.

Forget right now about Warnlasers. And forget about 80 miles without distortion too (not at this price or any similar one). I suggest you a labby laser combined with a beam expander.

With such a bucket limitation, I would look at O-like lab lasers.

Yours,
Albert

If i buy O-like (Ultrafire 100mw), do i need to be at home when DHL send it or is it small enough to get dropped in my mailbox?

I think it will be safer to meet it personaly, rather than have it dropped from a height.

I'm from holland too. I buying @ O-like for the second time now....
You make your order at the site, with paypal you pay the money to O-like paypal email adress. The next day you will get mail back about your order....
But the postman need a signature in most case I think.

What exactly do you need this for?
If you have any scientific purpose, I would forget about O-like, Rayfoss, and other generic resellers and invest in some quality equipment. Don't get me wrong, these companies are good, but their products are hobby-oriented rather than "professional" instruments.

You will not be able to see the beam of a laser from 80 miles.
40 miles is even unrealistic.

If you want any kind of decent visibility at more than 10 miles, >150mW of 532nm and a 10X beam expander will suit you best. For more visibility, obviously get more power.
Also, most small portable lasers will have a short duty cycle (usually 90sec on, 30 sec off). You may want something that can be operated for a long time without having to worry about overheating.

Some recommendations:

with

Or

Optotronics RPL Portable Green Lasers
with
Optotronics Product Details

The lowest price alternative (but still great quality) will be this:
Viper Series 95mW Green Laser Pointer :: Green Laser Pointer ----- 532nm Laser ----- Viper Series Lasers :: Handheld Lasers :: Dragon Lasers
with
Laser Beam Expander :: Precision Optics :: Dragon Lasers
For a $289.98 total

Without a beam expander, the typical laser with divergence of 1.2mrad will project a ~70 meter spot at 40 miles.

For this application, there really aren't many "cheap" alternatives. Anyway, if you are going to get something, you might as well spend the extra cash and get something that will last.

If you want to get an idea of how visible a given laser will be at a distance, refer to this thread, it may help:

I hope I provided enough info to help you out.
There is tons of information around here, and the members here will do their best to help you out.
Enjoy the forums!
