Hello guys,

sorry for my bad english, i´m from Germany.
In October 2009, i buyed this laser: www.rayfoss.com

Now it just flashes one time if i press the button.
I don´t drop it or something, i just took it out of my cabinet and now it doesn´t works.
It just blinks one time everytime i press the button. The battery is fully charged and the power led is lighten up normal.

If I look into the laser there shines only a little red light

could you please help me?

Ahh here we go again :D

NEVER look into the damned laser. Why would you look into it? Would you look into the barrel of a pistol if it jams?

Little red light is very powerful InfraRed radiation and will blind you. Permanently. Do not look into it.

Now, about the laser flashing, my best guess is that your battery has lost it's capacity, and no longer can provide current the laser needs.
Do you have another battery to try to laser with?

I don´t have another battery but tonight i´ll test it with a DC Power adapter and 4,5V instead of 3,7v if this is okay.

I would not do that.

DC adaptor may provide few volts more than specified when without load, and could result in failure of the laser's electronics, or diode itself.

Try buying a replacement battery, and then let us know.

That dim red light is IR which can fry your eye quickly and permanently You won't know it's happened until you suddenly feel heat and then it's too late. As Eudaimonium said your battery is probably toast. I'm not sure where you are but an 18650 battery would cost about 12-15 USD shipped here which is a lot cheaper than potentially ruining a $150 laser with a wall wart.

Hello,

I´ve tested a many other batteries, but the problem stays the same.
The Status Led is shining bright, but the Laser just flashes one time, when I press the button.

What can I do?

If the battery is fine, and you haven't dropped or molested it, you are looking at a failed connection or a failed component.

Try cleaning ALL the connections you can find (including threading and springs).

After that, you are left to disassembling the laser to search further

I think, if a contact is rusted, the Indicator Led wouldn´t light.
How can i dissasemble the laser`?

I´ve already remove the lens and the heatsink ring, but I can´t remove the modul, it seems to be glued.

Do I have to damage the housing?

Sorry. I haven't taken one of those apart.

A connection doesn't need to be "rusted" to be dirty. Simple oxidation could do it. The driver and diode take significantly more current than the LED indicator light takes.

The Connections are looking like they are new. Really silver.
Everytime I press down the Button the laser is lighting a half second and the Blue Status Led is shining.
If there is a oxidation, then it is not visible.

Why is there a infrared radiation?

Do you have a multimeter? I have that exact same rayfoss laser and it measures 710ma at the tailcap. If doing this won't rule anything out, someone correct me please as I'm not much of an electronics person.

Also, since I have that exact same laser (I bought mine Dec. of 2009), mine was doing half of the stated 200mw, peaking at 116mw with around 20mw of IR, as jakeGT metered it for me.

What a coincidence that we bought ours 2 months apart, and mine is half-spec and yours doesn't work...

My rayfoss green must have heard me talking bad about it, because it is now DEAD. Never again will I buy from rayfoss, lol.

Deja-vu...The agents will come busting in at any minute, need to find an exit

Funny. I have that laser too! Mine works great, not sure if it's underspec, but if my makeshift LPM is anything to be believed, it's right on the money, if not a bit overspec.

Well you can find out if yours is up to spec by getting it metered with an actual LPM.

If it is up to spec, I'd consider yourself lucky the way rayfoss has been lately.

Haha thats a good comparision about the gun barrel.

I also had the problem of the topic creator though, long ago.
It goes on for half a second then stops, but still emits IR.
it was with a DX 200mw 532nm pen.

I still dont know why, maybe i can fix it soon:)
