Default Laserbtb 515nm 5mw

I just noticed Laserbtb offers a penstyle 515nm 5mW laser. Any experience or knowledge on these?

Since nobody seems tot care or to know, I'll throw up soms other thoughts.

A far as I know, there is no such thing as a 515nm diode. So it must be either a 520 or 510. The 520 has a lasing threshold around 15 mW, according DTR's tests. Dunno 'bout the 510's.

Do you think these penstyles are 'overspecd' i.e. above the advertised power? Or do you think they use a different kind of driver that allows them tot run it at 5mW? Or do you think it may be 510?

Maybe you guys think that for $102, you'd buy alot more 532dpss laser power, but for me it is a fair price for a greenie that resists the cold over night. Just don't want to be scammed.

I do believe there is actually a 515nm diode. DTR mentioned it somewhere recently i think I'd much prefer to have an exotic wavelength than a regular old 532.

I don't particularly care about the wavelenght, as all of these diodes will sooner or later become common, it's just that the 532 dpss dies in the cold, while the direct diode lasers don't.

They may be cherry picked diodes for wavelength , but if memory serves, weren't they +- 5nm anyway?

Nope not cherry picked. Osram has made two diodes 30mw 515nm and 50mw 520nm (the one DTR sells).

AFAIK there are several other direct green diodes, some of them 515nm 5mW. The 50mW 520nm is the favorite here because we like power

Default Re: Laserbtb 515nm 5mw

I have 515nm at 41mw and a 520 over 100mw. Kind of wish they had the same output to see how well I can see the difference as the 520 is so bright in comparison Too bad the 515 and 520 aren't the exact same power so I can really try and spot the difference.
Never know, they may actually be the same frequency. The 520 I being pushed a bit.

And yes, I specifically wanted a 520 over 100mw and the module came from DTR via my good friend Sir Lazerbeak.

Problem is those wavelength values are the most likely central wavelengths. From what I remember the diodes vary from 510nm to 530nm and 515nm to 530nm, respectively. If you're unlucky they could both be 530nm :/

You could try to measure them making a wall spectroscope with a diffraction grating. Mine measured about 522nm and still looks very different from 532nm.

They both look very different from 532nm. Have plenty of 532nm at around that same power output so that's an easy comparison.
The 515 looks very different than a 532nm at its power so they I can't see how any are about the same nm.

OK, so that brings us to the original question : do you think I can safely buy this laser and have a good product? As far as I read over here, laserbtb is a thrustworthy company and they are reputed to not selling lemons.
At first, I thought of ordering a 520 module at DTR's, but these guys offer a complete build at exactly the power I want without any additional hassle like DIY construction etc.

Just reading this thread and came across your comment. Since the diode output is polarized, you would be able to employ a transparent "window" optic properly oriented in the beam of your 520 at/near Brewster's angle, changing the angle of incidence or rotating the laser on axis until you get a beam of the same measured power as your other laser, for visual comparison.

515nm 20mW diode based Laser Module 12x30mm $85.00
515nm 20mw diode based (not DPSS) green laser module. Comes complete with special heat sink. 3.2VDC 80mA current draw, current control internal. This module uses the OSRAM 30mW diode for a 20-25mw output.

I tested 5-all made same 26mW with LB1 LPM

86 the heatsink and get a bigger one that has a better fit-the one that comes with is not made for a good fit and not much mass-
its not shown in the pic-

AixiZ

Offering to mail a check may get you free shipping-no harm in asking-

NFS on ebay or amazon AixiZ(yet)

515nm 20mW diode based Laser Module 12x30mm, AixiZ

no pressing needed-drive is inside standard AixiZ module-it has focus- not sure about what lens is in these-somebody who has one may know--

brb w/some pics
