Yes, sorry everyone. It's another of these threads.

Welcome to focalprice.com | The lowest Price for DS R4 lite,PSP Slim,Genuine Earphone,SONY EX71 EX082,PS2,Macbook Accessories etc.

or

www.rayfoss.com
?

I far prefer the host of the gun-style laser, but I'm worried it'll be crappy quality like my last FP laser. Loose connections, needed frequent dissassembling and reassembling. Also unsure if it'll get through customs.
The Rayfoss is sort of a safe option. Rayfoss is a well-respected company as far as i gather. The host looks good, solid, sturdy, waterproof (not likely i'll take it underwater all that much, but a worth-having property nonetheless, means i can take it out in the rain & maybe in the shower without worrying) and will probably be generally better quality than FP.

What are your reccomendations, LPF?

This thread will be up for as long as me & my girlfriend can not work out how to use Paypal.

Also, any information regarding the gun-style laser is appreciated. FP never gives all that much info. Anyone know who the manufacturers are? Do FP manufacture them? And why is it 20-50, does that mean it'll be unstable and vary from 20-50mW or it could be anywhere between 20 and 50 mW depending on the unit?

20-50 means it could be anywhere between 20 and 50mW. I don't know much about Focalprice, but I know Rayfoss is reliable like you said and you will get a up to spec laser if not overspec. Personally I prefer the Rayfoss laser, but it's your choice.

Personally I would get the Rayfoss laser, much better host (in my opinion).

I own the 50 mW version of that rayfoss, and it works perfectly. The whole process was extremely smooth, my emails received responses in less than an hour in some cases!

The quality of Rayfoss is sure to be much better than Focalprice's and the customer service is great.

Go with the Rayfoss one. It will work fine in your shower (or even in the tub). The gun-laser will be fun for about 3 days (until something on it breaks). the Rayfoss laser should last you several years (as long as you don't go deeper than 3-meters into water).
I have several rayfoss waterproof's (30mW, 50mW, 100mW), and they are very sturdy, and with such a solid aluminum host as the heat-sink, you really don't need to worry about a duty-cycle on the rayfoss one.
The gun-one will be very disappointing. :tired:

I love the FP gun host, (because I love guns) but I bought 2 of them with the idea of replacing all the components in one (or maybe both, if the other one does not last)
Everyone else is right about Rayfoss being of much higher quality then FP.
Although I have bought a great 532nm laser off of FP, it might be the only good one in 1000 crappy ones.
If you like the gun host, buy it with the idea of using it as a host only. If it lasts, you came out ahead. When/if, it dies, then rebuild it with quality components.

Rayfoss is more quality, but for a cheap pointer, dealextreme is the way to go. They are very reliable from my experience.

Hi JaiNobeZ,

If this will be your first laser, i recommend you buy a cheap one, and a good one. Not the best of course but not bad.

This DealExtreme: $26.85 30mW Romisen L-B030 Green Laser with GITD Tail (CR123A)
or this DealExtreme: $26.85 30mW Romisen L-B030 Green Laser with GITD Tail (CR123A).

If you are interested buying another better one later, in my opinion best lasers are at Nova. Expensive but great customer service, shipping time, and good quality lasers with true MW.

I would also buy one more laser from Nova, but i saw o-like lasers here. And changed my mind, and ordered one gatlin 200 mw. o-like prices are good, and also here people say lasers are good. Will make a review when i recieve my laser, havent been shipped yet.

See you,

Bora.

Ok. I think I will be getting the Rayfoss. But I still love the gun-style host. If anyone has any more information regarding it because I'd love to have one just for the host.

And, more information on my laser use, I've had a Focal Price 50mW that dropped out of my pocket and the crystals have become disconnected from the diode so it's now basically an 808nm. It was great, and I loved using it. There was a loose connection that made me have to keep repairing it, taking it apart, reassembling it and such every few days. I'm basically looking to replace it. I now have the O-Like 200mW Waterproof (the first one, not the most recently added) which I'll be doing a reveiw of if anyone's interested.

Oh yeah, also, the reason I want a 30mW and not more is because of what it says in RandomLugia's post about buying a first greenie. It says you shouldn't look at the spot projecting on a surface. Can anyone confirm\refute that?

Interested in selling it (your broken rayfoss 50mW)?

Crap! Sorry! I meant a FocalPrice 50mW! I assume that means you won't be so interested in buying now that i've said that.

If you are, how much would you be offering?

I've looked at all my lasers dot directly and I believe there's no risk in doing that. The danger is not in looking at the dot but in the dot hiting a reflective surface. But, looking at the dot on a green wall isn't dangerous at this power levels.

When a laser is around 50mW the dot is pretty bright. I don't think it can damage your eyes, it's just not good looking at it from close range if it's on a bright color surface.

Focalprice has hundreds of lasers. You would have to show me which one. But, I would just be using it for the host anyway (and maybe the crystals). :shhh:

Well. I actually find looking at the dot (on a white wall) from a greenine that's >50mW uncomfortably bright. I don't know if it's actually going to damage my vision at all, but I do know that I don't want to risk it.
I also don't like looking at the dot (on a white wall) from a +200mW red or a +150mW bluray. Maybe my vision is just too clear.

It's this one:
Welcome to focalprice.com | The lowest Price for DS R4 lite,PSP Slim,Genuine Earphone,SONY EX71 EX082?PS2,Macbook Accessories etc.

The crystals are perfectly intact. The host is not perfect, but works alright to my knowledge. It has a strange system where the driver sits in a little peice of plastic and that holds the diode into the head of the laser. It's not focussable at all and has no filter (i installed one myself). It didn't come with a lanyard, i attached my own (which i have since taken off and put on my 200mW red). I'm not advertising it very well, am i?

Well, doesn't sound like you want the (remains of the) diode or driver which are the bits I would value so I'll sell it pretty cheap. My minimum requirement is that it covers the cost of shipping... lol... alternatively, i'll trade all of it for pretty much any working diode in a visible colour. I can hook it up to a power source myself in some makeshift host.
