Laser messed up?

Hey, I recently purchased a Wicked Lasers Executive Nexus (95 mW). I am not sure if it is actually messed up, or if I am just paranoid from it being my 1st laser and all, but when I shine it on the ground, or on a wall at night, there is the beam in the center, then all around it for a couple feet ( depending on my distance, normally 20 - 40 feet ) there is a lit up circle all filled in, but sort of grainy looking. it makes it seem almost more like a flashlight because when i shine it on the ground it has that sort of size for the lit up area, but the center beam is still the brightest by far.

The laser is maybe 1 week old and has been used all of maybe 20 minutes, not even through a set of batteries, is this normal and im just paranoid? or is the lense messed up?

sorry for the lack of knowledge, this is my 1st laser, and sort of learning as I go along. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Glass cleaner on the Q-Tip?

Also, are you sure you're cleaning the lens? You may just be cleaning an IR filter. Have you unscrewed the top to see the lens?

Peace,
dave

Sorry.  Those don't unscrew.  They are a friction fit (pressed into the tube end) instead of screwed in.  When you look into the aperture (with the batteries out of the unit for safety), do you see a greenish/blueish looking glass?  If so, that is the IR filter.  The lens is under that cap inside the tube.  Something might have gotten the lens or the inside of the IR filter dirty.  Has it been like this since you got it? First try the glass cleaner on the Q-Tip.  It is more likely that the outer surface is the one that is dirty.

Peace,
dave

yah I see the IR filter, I will try the glass cleaner, will windex work? dont want to mess it up.

and to be honest, I have used it all of 20 minutes, so I cant really remember if when I 1st used it was like this, but this was 1st time using at night so might not have shown up before.

Windex is fine.  Spray it on the Q-Tip (or dip the Q-Tip into the cleaner) away from the laser.  DO NOT spray the laser.  Have a couple of dry ones there as well to "dry" the lens after.  You may want to have another one either already wet or ready to get wet in case the "dirt" is thick or sticky.

OH YEAH . . .DON'T push hard on the IR filter. It is not very stout.

Peace,
dave
