1) buy appropriate Laser Safety Goggles/Glasses...
2) buy a magnifying glass...
3) go to the WELCOME section and introduce yourself...:D

No, his problem is that his laser is not 200mW.

It is impossible for it to be 200mW output while being powered by only 2x 1.5V primaries.

I'm betting he most likely got it from Dealextreme or other sites known for selling sh*t lasers.

Leonardo, you're most likely getting the power under some 50mW, no more. Not even close to 200mW.
You get what you pay for. You most likely payed around $30 for it.

Actual 200mW green laser would cost anywhere between $150 and $250, depending where and how you buy it.

Are you sure? $250 for a 200mW sounds very expensive for me! :undecided:

reread... euda said between 150 and 250. for a true 200mW that sounds about right.

at OP, the advice in this thead is good.

Now, you can buy a ~ 190mW-200mW green laser for about $ 90-100.

It will not be the best in the world, but you can buy at this price.

Piferal, thanks for your helping.

I am new to the Laser Pointer, and all availabe here in Brazil are worse than DX and somehow expensive, I just want something of good quality for a good price.

All the brazilian ads don´t mention about goggles, the only place where I saw/read about it is here! what sounds strange for me. Are all the brazilians dealers away from reality? All their LP are so bad that no need goggles?

I guess this is called, irresponsibility.

Normally any laser over 5mW, goggles should be used.

If this is your first laser, I suggest you start with less power, 1000mW is very powerful.

ANY laser over 5mw of output REQUIRES safety glasses for the power and wavelength used.

It is not my first, I have two others, but they are weaker.

Maybe the brazilian dealers don´t have any idea what they are (re)selling!

Thank you once again!

Just to clarify, $150 to $250 for a stable and nice unit producing 200mW output is your average price.

If you want top of the line, best quality stuff available, feel free to look around here:
https://www.laserglow.com/GAR#

This is LaserGlow, which resells high quality units made by CNI.
If you click "Pricing and ordering" on the blue stripe, you will notice that a 200mW laser, that is
Sustained: 175-199mW
Peak: ~215mW

Costs $539.

Next you've got Optotronics Laser Products
Their 200mW portable laser costs only $569.

So next time you see a "200mW 2x AAA laser pen" for like $30-50, keep in mind that it may not be a laser on 98% discount out of the goodness of seller's heart, but more likely just a cr*p laser.

All the links I've provided so far also have some good laser safety goggles you can order to protect yourself from accidents which WILL happen. I've had my goggles save my eyes two times in some 5 years that I'm into this hobby.
