I have to say and warn every one. Nitrox lasers is junk. I just got my laser in from them and it sucks ass. It stays at peak power for less than a minute. I expected a lot more for 190 dollars. I feel bad that I am saying this about a persons work but people have to be warned before getting ripped off. Anyone know any reputable laser companies that stand behine their products.

Sorry about that misfortune of yours. All I can say is that I bought a +150mW green laser that is putting out 165~170mW and I bought two of them from Optotronics and they are great. They power up immeaditely and are very stable. However they perform best when they are cool, approx 78º or lower. They get dimmer if they get too hot. They are powered by a 1W diode. If you want to give them a try I recomend them, here is the link:
http://www.optotronics.com/green-laser-pointers.php
Jack at Optotronics says this about the +150mW:

Output power is verified with a Coherent FieldMaster GS
power meter and test results are recorded on the instruction sheet.
These lasers typically have 1-4mW of IR; however this is not counted
towards the +150mW total of 532nm.
Average output >150mW
Typical peak output up to 170mW

What power output did you buy that ended up being bad?

power level

I bought the 100Mw laser and it does good for about 1 minute and then I have to let it sit for another 10 until it burns again. Just diapointed, i didnt know about this site until I had already ordered it or I would have opted for opt lasers, laser glow or even wicked lasers. How are the O-likes?

even wicked lasers! OH no! here we go again! (I would encourage all, just don't buy a laser from WL) -GH

No Wickedlasers!

Go with Optotronics for quality or O-like for cheapness. They are both good companies. Do NOT go with Wickedlasers, Techlasers, Boblaser, Nitrox Lasers, Warnlaser...etc.

The good companies are Optotronics, Novalasers, Laserglow, O-like, and Dragonlasers. (And the good old buy/sell/trade board right here on LPF!)

I'm surprised that no-one has said that for a 100mW pen style, the duty cycle is 1min/1min, so after a minute, it will start to drop in power as the unit heats up. Even CNI lasers have this heat issue, and it is why we don't see 500mW pen style lasers

is this the only thing? i thought it was because the power they needed was higher than what 2 AAA can give.

Also, this 1/1 cycle isn't exactly like this, it depends a lot of the unit, the weather, the battery status... Waiting for the pen to get hot is the best way to know when to turn it down IMO

That power thing is another contributing factor, but 2 AAA batteries could power a 2W diode for a while.

baterries

I know it is not a battery issue cause I use the PIX duracell batteries which seem to work better than regular duracells and when the power starts to fall ive put in a freash pair and it still is down on power. Which batteries do people prefer with these 100mw pen type lasers anyways
