At 700mW average pure green how well should it burn things?

At exactly 1 foot away Not focused (set to infinity), I'm burning through Black plastic "the Black Back inserts in a CD case that holds the CD it self"... It takes a full 20 seconds to burn through it. And thats a fully charged battery.

I think it's under power and am asking if anyone can tell me for sure so I can send it back and replace.

You should post a pic and with that it's already probably confirmed if it's 50mW or 300 just by the size shape of the pen itself

Can you post a link to the laser?
And is it collimated? Your saying "unfocused" that could mean a lot of things.

Another noob question

Is there any way the laser can hurt my camera? I would never shot a direct beam into it I'm just thinking in other scenarios

What website did you purchase it from?
If you Point the laser into the camera lens you can damage the sensor.

I said unfocused because it has a focus ability, and I'm trying to test it's mW and so I'm using the straight beam as a test, so you can more easily tell me a closer figure as to it's assumed mW power.

Well you said in your Original post that

How Un focused is it. We dont know.? A little more detail would be helpful.:)

The only right way to tell if its under power is to LPM the laser. Being Under speced by ~50mW would not be noticeable if it is a higher output laser. But if it is only 100mW laser and then its under spec to 50mW the diffrence would be noticeable.

When I say unfocused I mean that there is no focus adjustment set and it is just the straight solid beam. Nothing focusing it in or out.

I'm testing the straight beam not focused because it can be more easily compared to other people. If it was focused it adds even more factors to me being able to compare to other people and makes it harder.

This has a good IR filter on it and it should be putting out 700 mW average still with the IR filter on it. Should be pure green Laser little to none ir a all

Thanks. I have not seen a link yet where you got it from so How much did you pay for it.?

Edit:
Also for future Reference What you are doing is called setting the laser to infinity.:)

I paid 1300$ for it. I know I know I'm a idiot but I wanted a really good laser nice really strong beam that I can do good burning with. I should be getting a cherry picked out of they inventory and get there highest mW when I send this back. If I don't then I will be getting refunded and probably going to jetlasers stright

EDIT: and thanks, when set to infinity

700mW is a lot for a green laser in that host, is there a fan inside ?
I would be willing to bet that it is NOT 700mW
How much did you pay for it that will tell the real truth as to it's power.
But the only real way to know is to meter it !

It has a duty cycle of 100/10 secounds

I kinda don't wana bash on the website until i see how this gos, if i get a replacement thats kicking it's power out then this is just a fluke

If not then I'll disclose and tell other to ward off...

EDIT: + your very smart and i did tell you the price already...se@&ch...

I see. What could be is that it Peaks at ~700mW but then stabilizes to ~XXXmW. Who knows.

We cannot tell by looking at picture. What i would recommend is send your laser to a member here on the forum that has a LPM and have them test it for you. Usual you just have to pay for shipping and thats it.

Hers a few members off the top of my head:
