How do I change the focus of a cheap pointer?

Hi,

I have this cheap green pointer from DX which outputs 100mW.

While such output power should be more than enough for burninig a match, this specific laser won't burn at any distance.

The reason for this is that the laser is not well focused, and therefore I can't find a certain distance in which the dot is in the size of a pin point.

Nevertheless, I can burn with the help of a magnifing glass.

Knowing that these cheap pointers don't have a built in focusing mechanism, my question is, is there a way to improve or change the focus of this laser permanently and make it capable of burniong without the need of a magnifing glass?

TIA

Pictures? Most of the "newwish" style pens do have an adjustable lens if you can get the pointer cap off to get at the module. Most of the the lens' are glued in position too though

It's this laser.

It is labeled 300mW, but the actual output power is up to 100mW (including IR).

How do I get the pointer cap off to get at the module, without breaking the laser?

Yep that's the new wish. Luck, some leather or tough cloth around it held with a pliers/vise. Maybe a small strap wrench. The cap goes into the host and has a ridge on it about 3-4mm down that is the press-fit portion so dont squeez it there. My success happened when I rotated the cap, it just let go after that. Good luck :) There was a plastic collimation lens under there that i was able to use a needle nose on to adjust

some green modules have a set of lenses that take a small spanner to adjust, or a toothpick, give it a try...

If the top screws off as most do you can put a small magnifying glass in it and then you have a focusing ring :)

I didn't exactly know in what section to opent this thread, so initially I opened it in the 'Green Laser' section. Then I noticed that there where no replies so I thought the 'Optics' section is more appropriate.

NEVER meant to spam the forum.

Mod may delete the thread in the 'Green Laser' section or move it here.

Sorry for the inconvenience.

DPSS greens already have a very tight beam. If it's not burning, it's probably because the laser just isn't that powerful to begin with. My 80mW took forever to cause blackened paper to burn. It was pretty lame, now that I think about it.

But you know what's even more lame? Using a magnifying lens to burn something with a laser. You might as well just use the sun or a light bulb. If the laser isn't forming a beam, I really don't see the point unless you're making holograms.

Am I the only one who sees double posts and even the same posts TWICE in this thread by different members? I am confused.
