Found your forum through dragon lasers website, pretty neat stuff!

Well, im just getting into this high power laser stuff (ive always found lasers fascinating) and im stuck, so i need your help!

This will be my first green laser purchase and im torn as to what mw rating to get, at first i was thinking about a 95mw then maybe a 75mw. I want something that bright and can be seen far away, i dont care too much for burning power etc. Will i notice much of a difference (visually) between a 75 and 95mw green laser?

Thanks!

i would pick the highest mw that is within your price range. if you purchase the lesser mw it has been my experience that remorse is inversely related to mw's.

He is, absolutely correct - this is a VERY addicting hobby...I am quitting smoking so I can afford more lasers ! LOL

Welcome to the forum!

There won't be a great deal of difference in brightness between 75 and 95mW. If you want reach and are not concerned with burning ability, keep an eye out for a laser with a comparatively larger beam diameter combined with the lowest divergence (shown in milliradians or mrad) specification you can find. Such a beam will spread least with distance.

For example, if you have a choice between a laser with a 2mm beam and one with a 1mm beam, and they both have a divergence of 1mrad, choose the laser with the larger beam diameter.

N00B - welcome to the club of addicted laser enthusiasts ! I don't think you could beat he price of the Viper75 anywhere for the same quality and size.....when you get ready to move up into the "less portable" market - take a GOOD look at the Laserglow Aries or Hercules series. Yeah - THAT is serious food for this addiction ! LOL

I had a similar thing happen to me when i brought my Viper 125mw it was on promotion for $269.99 and 2 weeks later it went up to $329.99. Most of all 'it does what it sez on the tin' and easily kicks out 130mw and will sometimes peak at 135mw

I got my DL95 a few months ago and it works SUPER. They quickly respond to questions and mine shipped within 1 hour... Can't beat that. Got it 4 days later :) :)

Have fun and be safe with it.

Being blind would not be cool :'(

Safety is my # 1 concern, after reading on how these can cause retina damage, even when looked at for a fraction of a second.

sooo, i got my lazor today :)

Are there any "tests" i can do to see if its putting out near of what its marked as?

The only reason i say that is because the beam doesn't seem as bright as other 75mw green lasers ive looked at.

Noob -

First test -- Hold a red balloon at arms length - POP.

What cells are you using ?? I use e2 Lithium in my DL95. You gotta put the poop in to get the poop out

Im using the same, energizer e2. Now all i need is a red balloon!

I also noticed that when i first press the button, the beam dims then gets brighter, it fluctuates a tiny bit also, does that indicate a problem of any sort?

Thanks!

Use any color balloon.  Put a black "sharpie" dot on it.  Black marker.
Variance on start-up is temperature related.  Is it cold there ?  I keep mine in my shirt pocket.

I have fog here tonight. My neighbors are seeing star wars battles in the sky !!

Im getting really worried that its underpowered. It doesnt sting when i point it at my skin from even 3 inches away and i cant see the beam hardly at all during the daytime indoors. Whats the average battery time you guys have seen? after about 5 minutes of total use, i can already tell its getting dimmer. If i sent it back, would they even do anything?
