Hey guys, im like a totoal noob when it comes to this stuff, but I think I know the basics. Just wondering which laser I should get. I want it to sting human skin. Burning is not nessesary, and I would like the beam to be visible.

Sometimes overspec'd? Hmm???

http://www.budgetgadgets.com/532nm-powerful-astronomy-green-beam-laser-sight-pointer-p-869.html -- 80mW Pen
I know it says 80mW, but will it really be? I doubt it because its the same exact mediocre one from DX. I would expect at least 60mW out of it?

http://www.budgetgadgets.com/keychain-green-beam-laser-pointer-flashlight-30mw50mw-p-3939.html -- 30-50mW Flashlight, Keychain
I seen the review on this one...putting out street lights...COOL.

The conclusion is, I would really like to get the 80mW one, but if it would be a wise decisision to get one of the others, let me know PLZ! I need replies ASAP! ;D

Thanks,

Hey KanYarK....
you need to do a little more basic reading on the Forum....
instead of bouncing around on all the Threads posting 5 word responses
everywhere...

Did you read the New Members Stickies.... :-? :-?
Did you do any research on the forum using the [Search] button... :-? :-?

If you had you would know that the best bang for the buck is the
"Dilda" laser....

Remember.... the [Search] button is your friend.....

What I'm thinking is,
  • 12 posts
  • Spam posts to get count up
  • Little understanding of laser power (IE, if it burns skin, it will burn other stuff!)
  • No reading of stickies
  • Sadistic potential

Please read stickies and do some research - all the info is on here for you!
To answer your questions anyway:

You should consider buildng a PHR pointer - UV is best for burning skin, and is an unusual colour. That, and I have a few PHRs for sale ::) If you'd like a pen-stye PHR pointer with a narrow beam mod, I am sure we could work something out as well - I am waiting for a few pen-style hosts to arrive...
If you want a visible beam, at the same power, green is always best, followed by violet, then finally red. My 50-90mW DX pointer (the "100mW Factory pot modded" one) can, at times burn skin, and has a visible beam, but it doesn't burn anything. Your mileage may vary considerably.

Also, the compulsory nag, SAFETY GOGGLES!

Come on guys dont be THAT rude to a Noob...

The best of the 3 lasers you mentioned is IMO the 50mW Ledshoppe one ( I bought it a few weeks ago) . But dont expect from it to burn things or sting human skin , but the beam is really visible at dim light!
If you want a burning 532nm (Green) laser you better get the focusable 50mw one from DX (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.12342) .
If you just want a burning Laser without a very visible beam you can get the "Dilda" (http://www.dealextreme.com/details.dx/sku.11315) .

Well, it looks like he didn't post any from DX, so I'm guessing he is from the US.

But, if you want my opinion, I'd say either go with the ledshoppe 50mW (probably the safest bet it terms of a good laser at a good price), but... I'm gonna try out this one which is a little bit cheaper, but I think cooler looking and more compact: http://www.focalprice.com/50mW_532nm_Powerful_Green_Laser_Pointer_Silver_LP078S_7165.html Also, here's a review on it, BUT focalprice's lasers are not very consistent in quality: http://www.laserpointerforums.com/forums/YaBB.pl?num=1235085079

The BudgetGadgets laser is not 80mW, and will not sting skin. You'll need at least 85mW for that. And if the beam divergence is bad (big dot), you'll just feel heat. For a focusable laser that's cheap and focusable, I'd reccomend these two:

http://www.skylasers.net/laser-pointers/green-532nm/80mw-green-laser-pointer.html

http://www.o-like.com/b2b_cpinfo.asp?id=930 or http://www.o-like.com/b2b_cpinfo.asp?id=913

For the O-like lasers, you would need to glue the front half of an AxiZ module to the front, but it would work.
