I never thought buying a laser would be so complicated. I always feel like I'm at risk of being scammed or the laser being underpowered etc.

Anyways. I was looking at this 532nm 200mW Green Beam Laser Pointer DC 3V shipping via HKpos...USD 38.48/Piece Wholesale Price at DHgate.com

and this

http://www.kaidomain.com/ProductDetails.aspx?ProductId=8313

But I'm not familiar with the sites and i only have enough courage to buy either once cause paypal is an option.

I'm looking for a a green laser with a visible beam of light... Would 200 do it? or should I up it some more?

thanks in advance

Ok well first before you get 200mw of anything I reccommend buying some safety glasses. A true 200mw of green is especially discomforting to look at, and can damage your eyes.

Even cheap ones are better than nothing. Laser Promotion Professional Anti Green Laser Glassess

200mw will be pretty visible even indoors in a well lit room. 50-100mw is plenty for a nice beam at night. With a 50mw or maybe 100 you will likely be fine without glasses but still I think you should get them. In these powers a direct hit will probably cause permanent eye damage without the glasses.

I don't recommend those sites, they are almost surely underspec. You should try o-like.com she's got lots of greens and I've never gotten anything bad from her. Steer clear of aaa powered pens. Not very much heatsink and the aaa's aren't capable of running a high powered laser very long.

Ah I see. Thanks, yea I'll definitely order a pair then.

Alright, I took those sites off my choices and I took a look at O-like and found some cool ones, but more pricey. But I did find a 400 mW blu-ray laser for $114? I believe. I think I'm gonna get that.

Also on that site you recommended me, are the lasers they sell there legit? I found these 2 and if it's true to it's specs, the price seems good.

blue ray lasers are a lot less visible. go for the green if you want visibility. and you should buy from o-like rather than focal price. o-like lasers are up to spec where as focal price lasers arent. that 200mw focal price will probobly be <100mW. hope this helps:) if you want blue you can get a 1watt 445nm laser from people on the forum which would be a good bet. they are more visible than the 405nm wavelength.

well yeah cause its low on the visibilty spectrum. you should get a 1 watt 445nm if you want something more visible of similar color.

Unfortunately I don't think you will get a true 200mW on this price. I am guessing this is actually not more than 100mW laser. If you can contact the seller. Just ask them if the laser will light a match. Normally a 100mW fixed focus or 50mW focused beam will light a match in 2-3 second. Good luck with your purchase.

I agree with InfinitusEquitus in that 50mW of green is all you really need to get a good beam outside at night.

I recently got a 50mW from BudgetGadgets and the beam looks really nice and bright at night. I have PICTURES in my review if you care to see what the beam looks like outside at night. It's only $31, and I'd recommend it as a good starter because you generally wont need goggles with it as long as you are responsible.

There is a link to the review in my signature, if you care to learn more about it. Good luck on your first buy. Be warned that once you get your first, you're doomed to forever spend your hard-earned cash on more. :)
