Whilst it is possible (more with the red diodes), it is unlikely to cause you a problem. The 520 diode is InGaN and primarily operates in the lower end of the spectrum. It is even less likely that a well made diode will output ir as well as visible. I haven't done too much research into diode technology but I'm sure most diodes don't output ir unless defective.

I don't even see how a defective diode would produce IR (unless it was an IR diode to begin with).

It wouldn't make sense from a design standpoint to have an LD that lases both 520nm and IR (I haven't even seen anything to suggest it has ever been done anyway, even with Multi-Quantum-Well structures or any other InGaAs technology) - unless you needed IR for some reason ... In which case you'd likely just combine an IR diode with a 520nm diode...

I thought I had seen something wierd like this in the past but it obviously wasn't diodes then. I think I was focusing too deeply on the wavelength bands not on the possibility. Even with my logic it wouldn't be likely with a InGaN diode. :D The red laser diodes can operate in Ir but simultaneously. Luckily I already stated that I haven't researched into diodes too much :)

Yeah diachi that makes sense. Since these are made by that n company they are most likely a single band as they are developed for medical devices/analytical technology et cetera. I just wanted to double check and confirm my safety because I love my eyeballs.
